Player Signing TE & LB pickups ( Latu & Muasau )

I too was gonna start a thread. I think the difference is these two were signed off waivers, whereas the rest of the threads are covering guys who cleared waivers so were true free agents. If you grab a guy off waivers you have to honor whatever contract they have in place. That's the cost of making the claim rather than hoping they make it past SEA and hit FA.
A nit, small but significant. Strictly speaking, players are not really “signed off waivers”. They can be claimed off waivers, or become free agents after clearing waivers and signed as a free agent.

Waivers mean a team has relinquished, or waived, its rights to a player contract. The contract still exists, so the player is still under contract, not a free agent that can be signed. Another team can claim the player contract, and then they have to honor all the existing terms including guarantees.

Veteran players are not waived. They are released from their contract, making them free agents available to be signed by any team.

The difference is significant in several ways, one being implications for rosters and practice squads. A free agent can be signed directly to the practice squad. A waived player that is claimed goes on the roster.

Good for him. Sorry to lose him, I thought he had potential to be a contributor.
The Drake Maye only Draft it was inevitable. Milton was released Today.

Hudson is on the Titans’ 53. Not a waiver claim since he’s a veteran, but same result. Should see a bunch of external signings to practice squads announced today, so we’ll likely see more former Pats end up elsewhere soon.

True, but….Well also, player doesn’t get a choice if you claim him on waivers. He has to come.

Whereas if clears all 32, he is a FA. Granted he isn’t really selling a viable product, but if he would rather go to a PS he knows as opposed to unknown team PS. Unlikely any team would wait til a scrub/prospect clears all waivers and then eat a slot offering him a 53 position. So at that point it would be the preferred PS.

Interesting thing about Latu, he was used as an offensive weapon at Bama, caught 56 passes for 787 yards and 12 TD receptions his last two seasons combined. He also blocked, but he can catch the ball.

There are conflicting reports about Hudson. NFL.COM has him as signing with the Titans Practice Squad.

Swinson got signed by the Steelers. Probably felt he wasn't getting a fair shake with the Pats.

Saw that too: those are not a Special Teamers stat lines. He was picked in the Third off those stats alone.

After today…disaster diverted I feel better about depth.
Let's hope we don't get to some of those Backups. Our Starters especially on Offense looks Strong.

A very Polynesian roster day. Bonus, Laiatu Latu was going to be Starbucks' special word for a double latte (like how grande is medium and vente is large).

Edit - I did have something to say about the actual acquisitions, to wit, they look like they can play so good.

I think it’s difficult to find those players while they have zero snaps in the NFL …JAGS up to this point

FA was a disaster. Where are all the players they signed? They cut them and bringing back to the PS. Not getting it done.

What are you talking about? Their major signings were Vera-Tucker, DreMont Jones, Kevin Byard, Romeo Doubs, and Reggie Gilliam, all of whom are expected to start. How is " a disaster?"

I was referring to the time spent on UDFA’s in camp. That’s lost time if they aren’t going to amount to anything.
