2026 Patriots Roster Cuts Thread

Just stop. Being waived doesn't mean they're gone yet. Could just be going to the PS.
And conversely, they might all be gone. I don't think they're better than the DBs they have on the roster by any means, I'd be fine with that.

If they’re cutting PS candidates already, then they might just go all the way to 53 today
I’m thinking they will cut veterans last, to give other teams a chance to trade for them. Rookies that have to clear waivers seem less likely to catch trade interest. And of course that’s for players they aren’t trying to slip onto the PS.

I don't think it's going to matter. Ja'Mychal Hasty was a vested veteran and cut.

I am always amused by this idea. It represents a belief that other teams have no backroom capable of watching the players subject to claim, or players that they might want to make an offer to if the players isn't claimed.

This really shows how little they think of Larison and Jam.
Another example of unfounded projection.

All it shows is they thought more of Kiner.

If they have a very high opinion of Kiner, as some th8ngs I’ve seen suggest they should, they can still think highly of Larison and Jam even if it’s not as highly.

SMH.

I mean...*I* think more of Kiner. Sort of like a Temu Gibson.

Yes, we will try to get a 2028 7th or better for veterans that we don't want to keep. We could even leave such a player on the 53, hoping that we could get a 7th on Monday.

But they still have Eliot Wolf.

Who had THAT on your bingo cards?

We still have a draft pick from the Saints for Polk though.

So Wolf has THAT going for him.

you have to look at 2022, 23, 24 drafts. Maye, Barringer, Marcus, Pop. 4 players from 3 drafts remain
all 3 drafts were under Bill's guidelines, with all the legwork done under Bill.
he was fired before the 2024 draft, but all the legwork was mostly complete.

2024 was NOT under Bill's Guidelines. They were under WOLF'S. In fact. We KNOW that WOLF was the one running the show for personnel. Wolf was using HIS guidelines and transferring it to Bill's. It's not that hard to do. It's not thermodynamics or actual rocket science.

Wolf's drafts have been hot garbage until Vrabel/Streicher/Cowden came in and set him straight.

I was perplexed by them re-signing Hasty.. He showed last year he couldn't make the cut. So why bring him back unless it was just as a body who sorta knew the system.

Yes. I think so.

I warmed to Gibson last year -- and then he got injured. I was puzzled by the signing of D'Ernest Johnson, then a street free agent. Surely there must have been someone on one of the practice squads elsewhere who would have been better.

RB3 is a real need and I couldn't see much from Kiner's highlights ... except that he is slow.

Is the waiver window already open? If someone gets cut today, could they be claimed today, or do teams have to wait until after cut down deadline tomorrow?

Teams can start putting claims on players after the league released the list. But they won't do that until after 6PM Sunday. Teams will have until 1 PM Monday to initiate any waiver claims on players.

Not certain we want to anoint V/S/C as great drafters. For now, I will consider them average. Win some lose some, with the potential for losing more.

Pats could still keep lan or even jam. Not unheard of to keep 4 rbs

Players cut today and tomorrow aren't eligible until Monday morning is my understanding. Because of the CHANGE to 6PM Sunday EST for Cuts to be in.
I think the best conceptual model is probably email. Doesn’t matter when it’s sent. They take everything in the queue as of the cutoff time and process it.

In reality it’s more likely some XML based app, but the queueing model would be conceptually similar.

Point is, opening time doesn’t matter; it’s the cutoff that is important.

Would be an interesting application system to architect.

Well, Keion White, Jake Andrews, Chad Ryland, Kayshon Boutte and Isaiah Bolden from the '23 draft were all on other NFL rosters when I last looked. And there's a guy called Christian Gonzalez you seem to have forgotten. Obviously "Bill's guidelines" went downhill between '23 and '24 ...

I think that Vildor and Prunty are CBs 4/5. It will be interesting to see if Dial is brought back. Also be interesting to see if Woods makes it or it cut..
I think you’re right about Vildor and Prunty. I expect to see Dial on the PS and Woods going down the road. Woods might get signed to PS but my gut feeling is he’d want a change in scenery.

I pointed out to someone that 105 days passed between Bill's firing and the draft.

Surely that would be enough time to reassess.
