Let’s talk Jacas. Is it physical, mental, both?

It’s no secret how bad he’s looked in action so far. Constantly whiffing, getting stood up by backups. Not a great showing this August for the guy.

We all know Jacas missed a large portion of camp and is “behind”. Plus there was the matter of his injury condition. But even with that, you’d think the raw talent would’ve fared much better against 3rd stringers.

Are people seeing anything technique wise with him, or does it just look like he’s physically inferior?

I’m pretty surprised at what I’ve seen so far from him. I expected much better as he was coming out.

The comments on YouTube are funny calling him Keion White 2.0. People are also arguing with Evan Lazar on X about this. I agree with the comments as I see the similarities in playing style.

I don't think its physical. I think he is so lost that he is trying to overcompensate with aggression and then just finds himself out of position. I think he will get in a better position by season's end, but we won't know who he really is until 2027 when everything slows down and his reactions become second nature.

It certainly isn't physical. The guy is a freak of nature physically. He shows it in camp. So he isn't injured.

The guy raw and he missed months of development because of his injury and not getting a contract done until camp.

He may never pull it together, but if he does, his ceiling may be HOF quality.

Frankly they be better off signing KVN.

At minimum, Jacas is going to be no help off the edge until late in the season, best case scenario.

Definitely need another body if Landry is out.

If the simple things he's being asked to do are too mentally difficult for him, then we have a problem.
This country is so dumbed down, everyone acts like playing DL is rocket science. There's only a few different options for an EDGE player to diagnose. Rush the passer, Contain/Tackle the runner, Discern if/when it's a RPO and maybe cover a flat route.
Jacas' issue seems to be that he can't tell if the RB is running or QB is scrambling. In college he seemed to have instincts, so it must be that he's too afraid to make a mistake. They can simplify things for him once all the starters are next to him.

Keion White wasn’t a bust just because he only had a bull rush. Blaming everyone else rather than working on getting better was a big part of the problem. Too early to say that about Jacas.

Character matters. His shenanigans around his drafting/signing suggest he might be pretty lacking in that department. Some of these guys, having been lauded and lionized all their lives, turn into real turds.

I think it is a bit of both.
the game is still moving a little too fast for him. he seems to be thinking rather than reacting.
he also appears to have 1 rush move...the bull rush. he is going to need some coaching on technique on some other options.
by all accounts, he is very strong, an extremely hard worker and very coachable.

Meh. Hes a rookie and compound that he missed all of the OTAs and camps. Hes behind and catching up. Add to that he is being asked to play a role which has a lot of responsibility, complexity and requires discipline (set the edge, containment, passing game, keys, run D, etc)

This is an absolute clown post. Jacas' problem has nothing to do with our country or being dumbed down. It has everything to do with missing THE WHOLE FREAKING SPRING with a PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM. If football were as easy as you claim, then we would have 53 stars on the team. Roughly 60% to 70% of all drafted NFL players never sign a second contract in the league. What you are claiming is stupid.

Lets' hope Jacas get's it by the half way point. He'll be a Back-up until further notice.

Playing the defensive line isn't rocket science, but it's a lot more complicated than you're suggesting, which indicates that you're not up to speed with the schematic aspect of the game.

That's totally fine in a vacuum, but not when you're ignoring that deficiency and posting about it hyperbolically.

Following the advice of an agent and hiding an injury with the hope of being recovered before it matters has nothing to do with Xs and Os.

I think that’s where I’m at.

No issue with the mental errors at this stage. He had a short camp and is behind in development. But what did concern me a little was that he showed no flashes of the physical ability against pretty poor talent. He seemed manhandled. You would hope some of that pure talent could win out there.

I’m not panicking on him yet. The major concern is the state of our depth chart currently on the edge. I really really wish he were further along, because there’s just not enough in the room.

What i'm more concerned about is the lack of quick first step for a DE. He looks physical enough but his fist step looks below average for a DE.

I get the Keion White comparisons. Strong physical guys but don't have the quick twitch attributes to play edge.
