We often carry 5 DL's, 5 EDGE, and 5 ILB's. We seem to have 3 of each that we can count on.

Beyond our top 10 front 7 defensive player, I'm not sure that ANY of the others would make an 2026 NFL roster, other than ours.

I certainly hope that we are in the market for a #4 DL, #4 EDGE play and a #4 ILB. Yes, I know that we'll be OK if the starters stay healthy. We have TEN players, needing 4 or 5 more.

It seems fitting that we are looking at players no one else wants for their rosters

DEFENSIVE LINE
Williams, Durden, Barmore
Farmer will make the 53 but has shown little so far (OK for a developing player).

EDGE
Jones, Ponder, Jacas

ILB
Spillane, Eliss, Britt (even Britt is questionable as other than a top STer)

Pharms

Fair enough.

BTW, do you think that any of these players would get claimed if we were to cut them? I don't.

But, yes, choosing one of these for our roster is the status quo. And, yes, we have had worse #5 DL's in the past.

Pharms absolutely gets claimed.

I won't be surprised to see some new names brought in after cutdown day.

There's a few guys out there like Sam Williams on the Cowboys who are very much on the bubble - in some cases because of depth at their position.

Vrabes and Co. do a very good job at coaching up borderline roster players...but so what. I think the team is putting too many eggs in the homegrown basket and not signing older FA's that can help right away....Clowney is a good example. The coaching staff is very good but it will continue to be a mistake for them to believe they can turn EVERY average player into a better one. And then it's too late when they discover said player is not good enough for regular rotation. All will be ok if they fix the issues when teams cut down from 90....but they have to be willing to reach out and PAY.

This was sort of my point stacking the roster with a stronger position.

Whatever veteran is depth at these positions will make it to the squad.

I’m entertained by the casual assertion that the Pats have the worst 11th best front 7 defender in the NFL. Coming to that conclusion sounds like it would take a ton of work.

It's a lot of work for me to understand what the "worst 11th best front 7 defender" means

I don’t know what it means, but if the meaning is as bad as the sentence construction it’s to be avoided as assiduously as that phrasing should’ve been.

Sorry, it’s actually worse than that because teams generally carry at least ~14 front 7 players.

The statement

is like saying the Pats’ 11th best front 7 player is at best the 445th best front 7 player in the NFL. It’s so absurdly broad and yet specific at the same time.
