will we see some Belichick-ean roster manipulation?

Bill Bellichick: "It's not the best 53; it's the right 53.

Josh Allen: “I love Mack,” Allen told reporters. “He’s one of the all-time greats. I’ve only been around him for a few months now, but the energy and the juice that he has is infectious towards his teammates. Constantly in a good mood, constantly trying to get better. He’s a very unique guy, but it is so authentic to him, and it’s a breath of fresh air. He’s not trying to be anybody else but Mack Hollins, and guys respect him for that, and I know I sure as hell do. It’s good to have a guy like that on your team.”

you and Wozzy are arguing that Boutte and Hollins do not get open, yet they had 111 targets
We never argued that. They don’t get open as often as better receivers.
AJ Brown went from 33% of his snaps in the slot earlier in his career to less than 10% recently.
yet you argue that he "gets open"
Getting open on the outside, get open on the inside. Get open.
watch the game, please. (I know Wozzy does not). separation is minimal on this team. route running last year was poor (other than Diggs) the offense was efficient and productive because Maye put the ball in catchable spots every time, and his targets made those catches, not because they were "open"
You know I don’t watch games…. yet I’m on game threads giving realtime commentary?

The short period of struggling wasn’t about change or adjusting, it was about players. After a ridiculously long dynasty culminating by going all in to get one more ring, the roster was decimated.
The “rebuild” of 2021 and the drafts in that era didn’t bring enough talent to sustain the success. It’s as simple as that.
What you do that works with a talented roster doesn’t work with an untalented one. Look back at the 2022 Patriots roster for example. What you see is a lack of talent, not a lack of adjusting to change. In fact the most stubborn old school coach in the league has won the most since 2018
Or perhaps the lack of talent was another symptom of failing to adjust. BB’s scouting operation was antiquated and minuscule by modern standards.

putting down my phone now
I am at practice
Because you can’t explain why the Patriots extended a bunch of resources to get Brown and Doubs when they already had better receivers in Boutte and Hollins due to “efficiency.”

This illustrates your ignorance. Hollins didn’t get targets because he didn’t get open. If he got 180 targets they would have been throwing to a guy who isn’t open.

They both played 90+%. They played run and pass plays. You are just making up a maybe with no fact.

The real calculation that determines a WR true production is yards per route run. It eliminates all the other factors. You run 100 routes, what do you produce. Hollins is epically bad in that metric.
Youre not ignorant.

Youre an idiot. Hollins started 16 games and played 94% of the snaps. LVR rushed 428 attempts and you cant figure out that Hollins was blocking on those plays. I have no desire to argue with a moron like you all day.

Why would it be different after and not before?
Any system is good sometimes bad others especially when it involves evaluations talent. I don’t see why you would change 20 years of success, what was different that would cause it, not from a hindsight approach of results were bad should have done something different.

Every WR that plays 94% of the snaps is on the field for running plays.

That is why I just said the best metric is yards per route run, because it eliminates those plays.

You literally telling me I’m wrong for saying exactly what you just did. Remarkable.

Now we move to the “but she has a great personality” argument and think that if I can only find a teammate praising them that’s proof because teammates never praise each other.

Make you wonder why teams don’t keep him around. Must be politics.

Frankly I don't want him with Josh Allen. I think Hollins would have a field day against the Patriots, if given this chance now, because Josh Allen would be excited by it.

But more so, I think Hollins helps QB's feel more comfortable when he is around despite the flaws you obsess about. That's what Josh Allen is referring. Even without all this "personality" Mack still is a steady reliable depth piece.

There are meaningful intangibles to a team, which you refer to as "great personality," and I think Hollins has this type of value to still young Drake Maye that you don't see in numbers.

Wonder why he didn’t have great days against us when he was there.

Of course you think it’s intangibles because you want to promote him and don’t have “tangibles”.
I’ll ask again why has he been in 5 teams in 5 years if he is this incredible teammate that brings so much value? Did all of his other teams not value it?

Again, if our standard is finding a teammate to say nice things about you everyone is a superstar

Except for his first team each decision has been Hollins choosing to leave for more money. How many times does this has to be answered? Would he paid more each season by another team if he were bad. Was Tonga bad because he was offered more money? Hollins signs one year contracts, and other teams step forward and offer him more than the previous one did.

Isn't this success, not failure?

He played for Buffalo in 2024 and in two games against the Pats he caught 6 passes for 50 yards and no TD's. Josh Allen didn't want to throw to him then with a terrible WR corps, so why would he want to throw to him now?

Why would those teams let him go for such a small diffference?

He got 1 year 2mill from the Raiders played 94% of the snaps and got. 1 year 2.5 from Atlanta. Why would by the raiders do better? You think that is success? Atlanta was done with him in a year and the Bills gave him 1 year 2.6 mill. Why wouldn’t Atlanta after seeing his wonderful he is want him back for just 100k more? Why is he only getting 1 year contracts for peanuts?
If you think that track record is a great shining success I don’t know what to say.

Because they, like many fans here, don’t value the players they have as much as others value the players they want.

Same reason we would let Gonzo go for what ultimately will prove to be a relatively small difference between what our final offer and what he gets elsewhere, right?

Because there are many other factors involved when you're adding Mack Hollins to the team.

The Bills couldn't afford a #4/5 WR for 4 million anymore.
The Raiders preferred Jacobi Meyers.
Miami picked up a slew of premier receivers.

Of course Mack Hollins is on your team for partially intangible reasons, and he fills in as a 4/5 WR pretty well. The facts are in the numbers Still at 32 when his contract has expired Hollins was always offered more.

A marginal WR receiving this type of FA attention consistently. over an 8 year career. Of course that means nothing to you.

But you are telling me he is an incredible teammate and no one can spare $3mill for that?
Getting one year deals for under $3 mill is not “this type of FA attention” it’s an on the bubble guy who after 1 year they don’t want back.

Lots of excuse though.

If you want to call a series of 1 year 2.5 mill contracts success and proof of how great he is I’ll just chuckle.

You are actually making the counter argument to your point your new argument.
