Your conclusion of what Bedard said is not correct. He was talking about the structure of the deal. He did say they would not do the Stingley deal but the Witherspoon deal is a deal that the Patriots would and should do. The difference is the fifth year which the Texans never picked up prior to extending Stingley. His new extension kicked in for the fifth year. That is not the case for Witherspoon as his extension adds four years to his contract beginning after the fifth year. Pats would be fine with this contract structure not sure Gonzalez will be but since his agent represents Witherspoon he should be. I think they reach agreement in the next two weeks. Witherspoon does receive a signing bonus of 26 million now and a 24 million option bonus in 2027. But the 4 years do not start until 2028.

The guaranteed money is almost double. That’s a big difference. I’m not actually reading it wrong when you consider that because the key for any of the 3 players is to prevent teams from getting out if their contracts due to injury. The Seahawks can’t do it because if the guarantee. The Texans could do it but Stingleys salary was already high in that first year. So the conclusion I draw is that if they don’t do a Stingley type deal, the Patriots would have to come CB up with a lot of guaranteed money
