PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 14

I understand the desirability or the need for depth players to play STs but running with ball is not one of his strengths. Looks like his WR skills may be sufficient to make the roster, but after losing Gibson KR is a rare hole on the roster.
Sounds like Williams showed some promise in his first KR today. And IIRC wasn’t Larison showing promise as KR last pre-season?

I expect both will compete. Williams had a few moments and he is at the end of a strong WR group so could put himself on the game day roster as KR. A position to watch.

6'6 245.
Kittle was 6'4 247 at the combine.
Kittle has been the best blocking TE of anyone who can actually be a receiving threat since Gronk.
Raridon can most certainly develop into a good blocker.
Interesting note from Kittle's draft profile:
"lacks desired size for in-line blocking, but has the technique and willingness to do it".
Raridon:
"He blocks with solid technique and good tenacity but still needs to add muscle"

I'm gonna say he develops into a serviceable blocker.

Time will tell.
That's actually a big difference in size.
Kittle is considerably bigger and stronger.
For each inch of height you need to add 7lbs to be comparable. So Raridon would have to weigh 261 to be comparable to Kittle's size.
He weighs 245. That's a 16lb difference which is huge. Raridon needs his speed and quickness so doubt if he ever puts on 16lbs w/o losing some. But he could add 5lbs a year for 2 years and get to around 255 max by 2028. You probably don't want to get any bigger than that to avoid losing quickness.
And not just weight. It obviously needs to be muscle only and in the right places.
But let's be real: Kittle will go down as one of the alltime great tes and a great blocker.
If Raridon could end up being just slightly above average as a blocker, that's huge.
Because we know hes got receiving skills

I understand what you're saying, but weight is weight if you you can use it effectively.
Kittle is not big for a TE by any stretch, but he obv uses his weight incredibly effectively.
Raridon can develop his blocking if he really puts in the effort.
I have seen Kittle in person close up.
Was in Nashville 2 Aprils ago and he was there with his wife and a few others, he was literally feet from me.
He is not some bulcked up muscle head. Raridon actually looks more jacked.
Not saying Kittle isn't strong, I'm sure he is, but Raridon has the build to easily add 10 lbs.

please explain the source and justification for this statement. Why is it not 5 pounds? Or 10? Or 2?

Sorry if this has been mentioned….it seems one of the reporters that was there today….tweeted out more then once how about Dippre was making making plays when actually it was Raridon. He acknowledged the error after.
Honestly, I didn't notice, because we got 50 tweets when Drake Maye dared throw an interception in practice.

Eh I'm tiring of this stuff. Last time I checked, he still has 2 years on his contract. Deal with it. You didn't put your Hancock on the contract that said 3 year. It said 5.
I'm tiring of the Patriots not making the most mind-numbingly easy contract extension possible, to try to save a couple of nickels in 2030.

- Or they move Rupcich over to LG and bring Morgan up. Rupcich is likely the Main IOL behind Brown now.
- Not sure why you think Dippre couldn't supplant Arkin. Dipper JUST came off the PUP/NFI list a few days ago. It's ridiculous to think that couldn't change between now and the end of TC
- Jennings was the Pats best kick returner last year after Gibson went down. I don't see EITHER Miller or Jennings making the 53, honestly.
- Landry is on the PUP. He'll stay there unless he get's activated prior to the start of the season.
- Minor is no way over Dial. Minor didn't get to the 53 until there were injuries.
- Jacas has been getting 1st and 2nd team reps. He'll be the 3rd/4th DE depending on Landry.
- Jacobs may make it over Britt. But what has Obiazor shown to this point to say that he's ahead of Britt?

For most of these questions and especially the last one, about who will fill out the back half of the roster, we will have to wait for the preseason games where these guys will win or lose roster spots. That reason to watch these meaningless games alone

Damn. Sounds like if today was a real game we would've won 63 to 28 with Maye throwing an INT trying to get to 70. Too bad

Enough with the math, it's hard to enjoy one's digestif if you number munchers keep questioning your data. It's unsettling. Look, now you've upset the children, who were playing so nicely...oh! and Mr. Buffington has made on the leather hassock!

Its been around forever. Pretty common knowledge in football, boxing and wrestling.
Assuming weight added is muscle, the formula has always been 5-7 lbs per inch of height. So sone slight variation.
This relates to strength. A common misconception by some people is that height makes you " bigger". Absolutely not true.
Lean muscle mass makes you bigger and stronger, not height. Just ask some of those 6'3" heavyweight boxers who were obliterated by 5'"11 Mike Tyson.
Athletically, too much height subtract from athleticism since you now have a higher center of gravity, which is a disadvantage when body leverage is in involved. Also balance. And we all know leverage and balance are major important factors in all sports, but especially those that involve contact like football, boxing, wrestling, martial arts, etc.
As for a source, lol, this has been known for many, many years so who the hell knows the original source.

Yes the science makes sense, but there are other factors at play.
If a 6’6 guy and a 6’4 guy weighed the same had the same technique, the same tenacity…etc, the 6’4 would theoretically be harder to move (assuming he’s not a fat slob)
But that’s not always how it works.
I wrestled in high school. Wrestled 5’5150 lb guys, and 6 foot 150 lb guys.
Scientifically the 5’5 guy should be the harder opponent, but that was most definitely not always the case.
Raridon has plenty of lean muscle mass, the boy is jacked.
Hard to quantify want to and technique, but they are important factors.

I'm seeing a lot of "just pay the man" (Gonzo) sprinkled in here.

I can only say, he's not a FA able to walk any time this gets on his nerves. There are two sides. They're trying get to "yes" and I don't have any doubt they will.

When the Pats let a guy walk, it's because the team needs to go another direction (e.g., Diggs, where we made it happen with guys a little younger and maybe, overall, a little better, in AJ Brown.) You don't lose a guy because it's so uncomfortable not to have the deal inked, not without a long history involving other types of disrespect (e.g.,, the case of TFB... "home town discount"/"sacrifice for the team"/etc. gets kind of iffy when you've got a coach thinking twice about your value and even starting position moving forward.... after you bring home 6 rings.)

Gonzo's not that. He's the case of "yeah it's harrrrd getting a gigantic first massive contract done when the guy is at the top of his position to begin with." It's the business end. It's normal.

okay /soapbox

Exactly. There are many other factors involved besides strength. Technique being one of the big ones.
In boxing we've seen this a lot. A tall boxer who has good leverage and balance and especially great technique( Ali e.g.), can use his longer arms and legs to his advantage.
Conversely, a short boxer who's more powerfully built can use that to  his advantage by getting inside of the taller guy's reach and pounding his body. And there are countermeasures a skilled taller boxer can use against that. And so on. No matter what an athlete's body type is, on the professional level skill almost always is more important than athleticism. Pretty much every pro athlete is gonna be uber-athletic so skill is what separates the good and great from the guys who are just athletic but lacking skill.

You were just claiming that it would be no problem at all to maintain a grass field year-round at Gillette despite past efforts and failures, that it would have been done in a snap…except Kraft is cheap.

Now it would be “mind-numbingly easy” to negotiate the biggest CB contract in NFL history, even while another client of the player’s agent is trying unsuccessfully to negotiate the exact same thing in Seattle..except Kraft is cheap.

Props for consistency, I guess.

KW ran some really nice routes in the one of one sessions...his release is Elite *definitely something there*. Also Chism looks really sharp; can't wait to see both in the Preseason games...now I see why Vrabel might be tempted to keep 7 WR's. Sounds like my kind of Team.
