Patriots Player Departure Caedan Wallace released [UPDATE: Traded to Dolphins instead]

I think of this team as being in the final phase of a rebuild from complete garbage, so I like the fact that they are showing a willingness to part ways with serviceable mediocrities in favor of less experienced players who might have a potential for growth. Wallace was adequate. The hope. I assume, is that whoever "replaces him" (hard to suss out: it's often not a one-for-one situation on he o-line, where muti-position ability can be a factor) will prove to be something more. I suspect Wallace will find a role as a backup somewhere or other (Is the Miami thing actual?): I hope he does - he was a pretty good soldier.

This is a deranged post.
Wolf and his scouts were scouting and grading players for Bill in that draft.
he had been for 24 months. the intention was to move forward with players Bill wanted
after Bill was fired, the team had 3 months to pivot to what Mayo wanted on his roster...

the next year, Wolf with direction from Vrabel, nailed it
Fwiw, I think they did again this year

The dolphins love failed patriots OG draft picks. They cal line up Wallace next to Strange

Patriots have traded Caeden Wallace and a 2029 7th round pick to Miami for a 2028 6th round pick,.

Please update the title.

Heh, That's about as minimal as compensation gets. I hope he succeeds there. I hope we find (or have found) someone better.

In consecutive rounds Wolfe passed on Ladd Mconkey in favor of Polk then capped it off by picking Wallace

wallace and a 7th for miami 6? damn, getting something for nothing...nice move wolf

As minimal return as that is it’s better than getting nothing for him with an outright release

Wallace was drafted with NFL size and athleticism
he was a 4 year starter at a big 10 school
he allowed 1 sack in his 2023 season
physically, his ceiling was a starting OT in the league

Maybe Berman can play OL for the Dolphins too…

Updated the thread title to reflect the fact he was traded.

Surprised he had much value at all considering he's done literally nothing, but I know OL talent is a premium thing in the league.

In most cases you don't want to trade a guy within your division, but in this case, you prefer it.

He almost returned as much as it was reported teams were offering for Boutte.

Interesting - little more than a swap of draft picks but we'll take it. Just kindof funny that we had to give something up in trade but better than nothing.

It's like receiving a coupon to upgrade for recycling your trash.

There should be a rule that no alcohol is allowed in the Pats war room.

If one does need to step out, you must pass a breathalyzer to get back in.

Honestly... you may think this is a bad deal for Miami... but who knows... Strange is still kicking around. When you are drafted that high you clearly had some talent... Sometimes a change of scene helps you revitalize yourself. I don't think he will do much in this league or ever be a starter of note. At best he is another 'Strange'. One of those maybe start occasionally guys. But that kind of risk is probably worth this to the dolphins.

Miami is fighting for the AFCE bottom with NY Jets.

Supposedly the 2027 QB class looks good so losing for the Phins might pay off and benefit the Pats too picking high in round 6.

Makes one wonder of Crownover is a cut candidate, can they trade him for about what we used to draft him?
