[Walder] Proposing five big trades during 2026 NFL training camps

Here's the answer to what you need to trade Boutte. YOU DON'T. Boutte makes THIS team better with him on it even if he is the 4th WR and that is still to be determined.

If he signs elsewhere next season, so what. Boutte is a solid receiver with plus hands. But what he isn't is big, nor is he a big separator. He is a value to have in your WR room, but it's not like he's suddenly irreplaceable, just not THIS year.

Obviously, I’m utilizing a bit of hyperbole, but that one-handed catch alone in the divisional vs Stingley makes me want to keep him. He just makes plays…

With the Giants needs at WR and depth at Edge where Thibodeaux is 3rd on their depth chart, I don't see why they wouldn't offer Thibodeaux straight up for Boutte

But if we're only going to get a 5th or even 4th for Boutte I'd rather keep him.

Lazar wonders if Chism, while showing promise as a poor man's classic McDaniels slot type, just isn't the type of receiver that Maye is going to take advantage of because of his deep ball aggressiveness.

Again, that "aggressiveness" means he throws about 10–12 passes that go more than 10 yards past the LOS, and doesn't want to throw dumpoffs at the LOS.

Hmm. One year rental of Thibodeux to give up Boutte a year early? Sounds attractive. But…

How would this hit the books? Any problem with it? Worth it?

Both salaries swap, with essentially no dead money (except the tiny bit of Boutte's signing bonus). So the cap hit would go from $4M to $14Mish. BTW, they could trade Douglas with almost exactly the same net effect (other than the tiny difference in signing bonus).

We’ve seen this before where teams sign or draft a player then think the other player is expendable. Eagles will find this out in 2026. Trading Brown was dumb and Smith is going to have a rude awakening when defenses roll coverage to him forcing others to show up. Hurts will do his usual thing and take forever to make a decision. Barkley will get 8 men in the box treatment. Eagles window was barely open, but now it’s completely shut.

Adding Brown is good for Maye, Boutte, Doubs and the running game. Turning around and trading away Boutte who can make tough circus catches on the outside would be a completely idiotic move. Now Doubs would draw the #2 CB rather than a #3. If Maye likes Boutte that much, here’s where he lets management know not to trade him.

I've cooled on the Boutte for Thibodeaux trade idea.
1. Boutte is one of our two most consistent & chemistry'd WR's with Maye (w/Pop)
2. We've all seen what paper trades do when sailing value down the river (Meyers)
3. With the improvement of Ponder, and potential of Swinson & Jacas, we may not be as desperate at EDGE.
4. We're still getting Boutte for cheap this year, and Tibx will cost a lot (not to mention Gonzo + Maye coming next year)

I’d say there are three WRs showing great chemistry with Maye. The third one is Brown. I’m hoping that doesn’t lead Maye to lock in on Brown and ignore the other guys too often.

Thus far KW is the Clifford Franklin of the Pats. Has 99% of the talent that scouts drool over but missing that one thing that actually makes the difference.

Which is apparently so important you were not able to name it.

Do not take the media’s word for it until the games are for real. Each team’s media does this every year hyping up certain players only for that player to forget how to play football when week 1 rolls around. Taylor Kyles said Javon Baker was “unguardable” in training camp I believe his rookie year. He also hyped up Polk.

Thibodeaux is garbage and the media needs to stop making fetch a thing.

Trading Boutte would be Smith-Schuster for Meyers all over again.
Does not matter if he is garbage. Its all about perceived value. Thibodeaux was a high first round pick and if they give him away so soon for nothing, the fans will roast the front office
