It's perplexing.
I understand being objective, I for one think I am.
But Sam is incredibly negative beyond objective reasoning, it's very strange.

I'm not objective, I'm usually optimistic / homer, but I'm able to think critically and sort the bad from the good. Plenty of people are more critical than I am, but they are usually somewhat reasonable in their criticism. Sam is so far over the top in his negativity that he's a unicorn. Sam would have been miserable if they had won the Super Biwl. He would have said that Darnold sucks, the Patriots got lucky, it was rigged, Vrabel was ****ing MacDonald etc etc etc.......

I am a huge fan of KW and think he will be a big part of our franchise moving forward (and I have him as one of the 6 making the cut)
DeG has potential, but thinking Boutte over him makes our team better in 2026 isn’t lack of imagination, it’s reality.

Honestly, I think he's just doing it to be as big an ******* as he can be. The people I have met who are like that are just perpetually miserable human beings who try to make others angry because they think it causes them to share in their misery. Other than that I don't know why anyone would bother to follow a team when all it does is make them miserable? The Patriots went from the worst team with the worst roster in football to the Super Bowl, and now we are looking at difficult cuts instead of dogshit players as starters and he's still bleating out his miserable takes non stop.

Sam reminds me of a proto typical New Englander, always views thing negatively, glass half empty. At least thats the way it use to be

I think the same when you talk about Boutte. Somehow the coaches know more then you.

You're confusing football with business.

Nobody dislikes Boutte, or think he isn't good.

He wants to get paid, and I don't begrudge him for that.

He's not gone yet, doesn't mean he still won't go.

And that's not disagreeing with coaches... it's just business.

Yep. I’ve been paying attention to those threads that have consistently been saying Boutte has made the play of the day. Every day. Stacking lots of good days.

We have a logjam at WR. More good players than we can keep on the roster and find reps and targets for. It’s a tough problem to have. First world problem.

If Boutte outplays Doubs, I believe that he will want more money now. Odds of Boutte breaking out this season are high, so why sign Doubs? Why not just wait for homegrown talent Boutte to produce?

Its puzzling. There must be much more to this than we are aware of.

1) You believe that Boutte is likely to break out this year. Vrabel clearly disagrees.

2) You believe that Boutte will have a better next 3 years than Doubs. Vrabel diagrees. If other teams agree with you and Boutte is that good a receiver, then some team out there will give us a 3rd.

3) Boutte is an asset as the #3/#4 WR (including Hollins). If Boutte is viewed as a problem, then he will be traded. However, I suspect that he will have at least as good a chance of looking good with Josh and Maye than with another QB and Offense.

If we are keeping 6, then all 6 who have shown anything will contribute this year.

Agreed, but he’s not alone.

Also agreed, but at some point the rubber meets the road regarding roster decisions… and we’re rapidly approaching the start of the season.

The team has to look long term, as well as for this season. They can’t be fans.

And again, that is the rub.
Is a future 5th (long term), worth degrading your chances of winning a SB this year.
Fan or not, the goal for everyone is to win a SB.
A front office has to be very compelled to make such a move.
Now that compelling reason could be a few things.
Do you have someone on the roster you feel could admirably fill that role?
Will the incumbent cause a stink?
Is a future late rd pick really worth it?
Guess we will find out soon.

… ... People on this board seem alergic to investing a first round pick into a WR. When you don't do that you get desperate and have to make moves like this... The lack of investing to get a WR1 in the draft causes us to over spend on Diggs and trade for an aging Brown, no matter how good the contract is.

This is why next really I REALLY want to use our first pick on a WR if one falls and is value. Because it would stop us from having to do things like this and compromise on older problematic WRs.

Not ALLERGIC, but still disagree. If the WR available in Rd 1 was clearly better value than remaining peer (rd1-type talents), ok.
- But all things being equal, id MUCH MUCH prefer Rd1 being spent on the trenches.

This position is substantiated by Rd1 success data. WR has lower overall success over the first 4 years past draft and lower success versus generic (non-Position specific) expected value per draft position. See below 2 snips.

OL has best success across both metrics. S second. Rest are mixed but wr generally to bottom half.

I think. Sam goes well beyond half glass full. The Patriots went from the worst roster and team in football to a 3 way tie for best record in football and the Super Bowl, Sam saw that as glass empty. Every fan base has fans who are consistently negative, because that's how they see the world, Sam goes far beyond that to the point where nothing is ever any good. He's one of the most negative people I have ever seen in my life. He's a cartoon character based on misery.

Boutte is aware he is not getting more money this year. He is playing for next years contract.

What you aren’t aware of is we use 3 WRs in our base offense so we need all 3

You dont get that Boutte asked to be traded.
