I love the HOF game. It's sort of in the "For a fella, there's no such thing as bad sex" category.

Pats debuted those ugly ass uniforms in the 2000 HOF game against the 49ers. Steve Mariucci said that was the game he knew Giovanni Carmazzi was a catastrophic mistake and wasn't cut out for the NFL.

And it probably got worse after the guy drafted 3 rounds and 134 picks later raised 7 Lombardis and wanted to play for SF.....

The worst part is that Mariucci offered Tom the starting QB job at Cal when Tom was considering transferring from Michigan. Coach Carr convinced Tom that he shouldn't run from his problems, but use that to work harder. A lot of players today are getting upset and want to transfer in College or ask for a trade in the NFL.

Why Mariucci didn't even take a flyer on him before NE took him is a decision that has haunted him. Jim Harbaugh coached Richard Sherman at Stanford and Sherman was pissed the 49ers didn't draft him. That's where the rivalry started.

Normally I wouldn't watch the HOF game, but being a GT guy, I wanted to check in on my man, Haynes King. So, some fellow nerds and I watched the game with some mutt friends who wanted to eyeball Carson Beck. We watched the game at a sports bar in midtown Atlanta. With the normal caveats - it was just a preseason game, blah, blah blah - that was a wildly entertaining game with a TD to win it on the last play.

Hopefully, the regular season can live up to that game.

In the article I linked Mariucci thought Carmozzi was " smarter" and more athletic based on hm being considered for a Rhodes Scholarship and being a basketball player. I guess he never heard that baseball catchers are often the smartest players on the baseball field as Brady was drafted by the Expos. There's book smarts ( Wonderlic) and football smarts. IIRC Dan Marino was in the teens on the wonderlic but he did pretty well on the football field.

I was at the 49'ers/ Pats in 2000. Poured during the game. The ceremony was outside the stadium, standing on muddy ground. Zero parking. Have no recollection of Brady's participation. It was a good time though. Would like to go again now that we have some Pats in there. I believe the Hall itself has changed a lot since then.
