A week ago we were writing him off the season, now we’re talking about extending him.

How quickly things change.

No, this is not an invitation to the fates for the next pendulum swing, I want to see the ascent continuing!

Very good player but jeez he’s old. Hopefully they’re just updating their break glass in case of emergency lists.

I was just thinking that demotion from starter to backup might seem attractive to a 36 year old who played 1100 snaps last year. OJR, on the job retirement. And he’d be able to step up if needed.

I mean, we should be a bit relieved that our D is able to shut down this offense too.
Sounds like there's been stretches this week where the O is sailing around and winning a lot.
Also - could be that the last pick to HH was a case where Henry was not going 100%, wiped out, and Maye overthrew him.
This is why I hope to see Raridon use his youthful stamina and burst to threaten more at the TE position.

Saw a tweet that Maye stared him down. If so that was two INTs in a row because Maye was sloppy. First one was off target according to one report I saw.

It is practice. The offense will win some and the defense will win some. It sounds like you would be much happier if our offense dominated our defense. Not me. They were out there with a backup left tackle which led to one of the intereceptions. The defense gets paid as well and I am glad it is competitive and that they made a play or two. That will make both sides better. What you see in camp does not mean much, the media overhypes it because it leads to clicks and engagement. The fans like it because we need our football fix but I will remind you Maye threw four interceptions in the first practice last year and he had a pretty good year.

Either way - Maye needs to sharpen up, even in the duldrums of practice, its the last minutes or crunch time he needs to improve. That's something we still need to see more of is game-winning drives. He has 1 4th qtr comeback + 2 game winning drives in 2 seasons.
Caleb has 8 4th qtr comebacks + 7 game winning drives

I think Gonzo & Brown will be great teammates once they stop beating up on each other.
Nothing better for 2 #1's though.
Although I will say - Gonzo shouldn't get too ****y, because AJ is great as a certain type of WR, but he's not fast or clinical in routes like some of the top WR's he'll face this year (JSN, JJ, St. Brown, Wilson, Waddle)

Brown is our backup OC. I don't see an issues with him in that role.

This. Drake has all the physical tools and then some. Seems smart.

But that “clutch” gene…jury still out as he still can freak out.

Hard to know if it’s youth, or “he’ll never have it”.

I was also disappointed about notes on BEN Brown. Might not be super accurate or how the coaches see it, but we'll see.
But testing Van Roten doesn't bode well for Brown, Rupcich, Wallace.

It would be an upgrade to have Van Roten and Brown as our backups. We would be replacing Wallace with Van Roten.

Rupcich and Wallace are being given their opportunity to compete for a roster spot. It seems that they aren't succeeding.

How many games did Maye trail in the 4th quarter last year and have an opportunity to have a comeback and need a game winning drive?
How many such opportunities for Caleb last year?
Don't even tell me about 2024, that team top to bottom was a complete mess, I don't care about any of those stats.

I do get the OP’s point but yeah, you can’t mount a comeback when you’re ahead! Patriots point differential last year was +170, Bears +26.

Exactly.
We were ahead in most games last year because Maye played well for first 3 quarters.
Caleb does have a penchant for late game heroics, but often times it's necessary because he was incredibly inconsistent for much of the game and needed a comeback.
You need comeback opportunity, and Maye didn't have many last year.
