Who could be candidates for surprise cuts this next month?

Interestingly, no one apparently would be surprised by them cutting Maye!

When it comes to WRs, I could see them cutting Chism, expecting he'll make it through to PS. I know everyone loves him, but he caught all of 3 passes last year and was an undrafted rookie, so I don't expect he'll be in high demand with other teams.

I don't see them cutting Mack with 46 catches (and great blocking) to keep Chism. I know everyone else does. I think we're also going to go with what we got at TE and Mack could easily serve as a backup TE given his size and skills, and we know Josh used him as a TE in Las Vegas.

I wouldn't be surprised with any of the remaining 48 being waived.

Of the 42, I could see being surprised by Woods being waived and/or Boutte being traded.
================================
QB (2) Drake Maye, Tommy DeVito
RB (3) Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Reggie Gilliam
TE (2) Hunter Henry, Eli Raridon
WR (5) A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, Kyle Williams
C (2) Jared Wilson, Ben Brown
G (2) Mike Onwenu, Alijah Vera-Tucker
T (3) Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Caleb Lomu
DE (1) Dre’Mont Jones
DT (4) Christian Barmore, Milton Williams, Cory Durden, Joshua Farmer
ILB (2) Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss
OLB (4) Harold Landry, Gabe Jacas, Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson
CB (5) Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, Marcus Jones, Charles Woods, Karon Prunty
SS (1) Dell Pettus
FS (2) Kevin Byard, Craig Woodson
ST (4) Brenden Schooler, Bryce Baringer, Andy Borregales, Julian Ashby

Total Players: 42

What happened or didn't for Lumo in drills today has no bearing on his status with the team.

Not bad guess at locks. I would do 44 by add
QB: Morton
RB: Miller

Note team page carries DE: Landry, not listed as OLB

Does that even need to be said?

Yes true, BUT….
A. I specifically bolded the part of your response where you said „play calling steers towards Doubs and Brown because theyre being paid to produce.“ with the intent of disagreeing SOLELY about Doubs. Including Brown and now Gilliam too into your counterpoint is just obfuscation.
B. My disagreement was that neither the players CAP HIT nor the „original plan“ (as you now imply what ‚ paid to produce’ means) for the player is going to dictate how much usage (& therefore targets) the player gets. Vrabes says it: ‚if you produce when you get opportunities, you get more opportunities.‘
C. (Also) The argument I heard (true or not ??) for why Doubs was given FA offer was that he was the WR1-alternative in event AJB trade DIDNT happen. So since AJB is here, Doubs is icing, but NOT cake mix. Based on camp performance, maybe they ice the cake with Boutte and not Doubs. They don’t have to force the ball to Doubs to stay with a BACKUP PLAN, that isn’t needed anymore since 2 June.

BL: We got a long way to go, this is all seriously speculative & can all change as players acclimate (connect w Maye-learn Josh O) & we see real football instead of camp football happening ( maybe Doubs is more than what we seen so far).
Better players or players that have certain skill sets earn more money because theyre in short supply.

Its naive to believe that the 3 players that I mentioned will not see the field more and have plays designed around them. If you believe that a healthy Doubs will be sitting on the bench watching Boutte play then good luck with that one.

Doubs worries me. Just doesn’t seem to do anything at an elite level. But…it’s early. I yawned last year at Hollins and he was fantastic
I wasnt crazy about the signing, but its what it is.

Doubs was the # 1 WR over in GB with the most targets @ 86. In NE, AJB is clearly the # 1 and I believe that will open up defenses for Doubs.

Josh is going to use him all over the place, confounding Ds- he's got a wide skill set and we're going to love him.

This. He'll be everyone's favorite receiver by this time next year.

Bedard reporting Lomu is trending in the wrong direction and was #1 down today.
Seems like a classic camp conflicting info report. Could’ve sworn I heard the opposite.

Mack Hollins may still have a thing or two to say about that. And EFCIII might also.

Efton Chism will be on another team. There are three camp binkies better than that Camp Binky on the team now.

the WR decisions could also boil down to Tanner Arkin forcing his way onto the roster with elite blocking.
Facts are that a healthy Brown, Doubs and Henry are going to gobble up a lot of targets. Mondre and Henderson would be good for another 50-60 targets combined in a McD offense. Raridon will be developed and offered some game day opportunities.
certainly all combined, makes Hollins, Boutte, Pop, Chism all question marks, regardless of their upside or last years production.

Hollins is happy to do whatever job the Pats ask him to do.

I don't doubt that. WR, inline (TE-lite), ST. He is a great player to have.
but if they see a #2 TE in 2 years in Arkin, and a potential swing OT in 2 years in Crownover, and they like Williams year step jump, at some point, there is a roster crunch. Especially if Boutte forces keeping him with his play.
If Brown, Doubs, Boutte and Williams are all game day active, is Hollins active every game?

Ticking time bomb?
Completely unfounded.
Pickens is a ticking time bomb.
AB was a ticking time bomb.
Aiyuk is a really fast ticking time bomb.
Boutte has shown nothing to indicate he would be a problem here this year.
He wouldn’t be the first guy to want a new contract/trade and not get it.
