2026 Red Sox Thread

Breslow needs to be dumped. Guy is a F'in imbecile and he's totally destroying the SOX.

First the moronic trade of Jordan for May.
Then trading Early for a middling infielder.

Now trading Mayer for some middling reliver.

Breslow is one of the worst GMs the Sox have ever had.
He truly is. Here is the difference between him and say the Dodgers GM. The Dodgers have won 2 straight WS and on the road to a third possibly. They also have the 3rd rated minor system. Huh I wonder why?

Oh yeah, he is the guy who trades you May for Jordan. He is the one who trades a player for you 3 of your top 5 minor players.

Bresbot should be fired. Not because he brought in good players overall, but for losing every trade. Thats doesn't work long term. He sucks.

Crochet/Wilson Contreras?

Contreras isn't all that good. He's on pace for over 165 SOs. The reason his OBP is high is because of how many times he's been HBP. He's also on pace to leave more than 200 on base.. I mean, you could call him an upgrade because he's healthy and Casas isn't.

I can give Contreras credit in that he's on pace to make fewer errors than he did last year. Whether or not this ends up being his best year for BA remains to be seen. Especially since he's been slumping in the last 7 games.

As for Crochet.. It was such a good deal that Breslow tried to get Teel back and was rebuffed.
Crochet of the 3-3 record with a 6.30 ERA.. This has been Crochet's worst year in MLB. He's not been an impact on the team this year.

The jury is still out on Durbin.. He hasn't take advantage of the Monster or the short porch the way that was expected. His numbers should be slightly improved, but not nearly what they should be for a right-hander like him. He's on pace to commit more errors this year than last.

But, let's be honest. I can't remember a time that the Sox had 8 players on the 60day -IL.

YEAH.. Another ourfielder who won't have a position because of the 5 guys in front of him.

Breslow is a f'in moron.
I have zero idea what this move was to be honest. I have no idea where he would play or who he plays over. Thats a real head scratcher.

Maybe Breslow thinks that they can move Cedanne back to SS.. LOL

The way I see it, they've upgraded the offense (Narvaez was a batting black hole), they've upgraded the defense and they've upgraded the bullpen. On top of that, they keep their best prospect in Arias which looked far from certain in the run up to the deadline. It's just a shame the power RHB got injured.

Maybe there was a plan to make another move (Duran?) that fell through.

The last two pages were pure entertainment for me. I have been enjoying last month's resurgence of the Sox, especially the sweep of the hated Dodgers. My nephew saw 2 games and told me there were a LOT of Sox fans in attendance. It sounded LOUD as Fenway when you watched clips of Red Sox highlights

I don't know enough about the farm system to intelligently talk about who won or lost the trade. People have been consistently negative as I would expect. As a true Sox fan you always expect your team to break your heart, so I understand. I speak as a guy who as a kid watched Ted Williams play and spend hours throwing the ball against a blank brick wall in the Franklin Field projects pretending I was Frank Malzone and Billy Consolo and occasionally Pete Runnels, Meanwhile they went 7=2 on a Westcoast swing that usually is considered a success when you go .500.

Hey, they needed a catcher who had some pop in his bat and they got a 2 time all start who is hurt, but coming back soon. And they got him, I'm OK. They are also going to get Roman Anthony back soon. They at LEAST will keep us interested over the next 2-3

At the start of 2025, the Sox had 'the big 3' can't miss prospects. None have made any significant contribution this year. It's not good to lose quality prospects, but maybe there's a bit too much emphasis on the farm system, especially when the team is poised to make a playoff run. Having said that, the Rutschman trade will only be considered good if he signs a long term deal.

Baseball trades are always funny. Your team needs a catcher, so you get a good one, and then you’re supposed to feel bad because your team traded a guy you’ve never heard of to get him.

And I get it, some of you have heard of him, and the other prospects, and maybe they’ll be great. Jeff Bagwell. I get it. But most prospects end up sucking or jags.

Are you referring to White? Isn't he a right handed outfielder. I assume they will platoon Duran against righties and White against lefties. Duran is awful against lefties.

They did not trade the shortstop Arias, so I assume he will be brought up in 2027, maybe in September this year.

Anthony will be back imo before the playoffs including a rehab start or two. They have too many outfielders as it is especially when he comes back. That was a no need trade.

Probably not gonna happen because of something I heard. If the season goes to a lockout next year if he is brought up before September he would be ineligible to play in AAA next year which would be unaffected by the lockout. So he has to be on the roster prior to 1 Sept to be eligible for the post season roster. So I doubt he makes it to the big leagues this year. In fact if baseball is stupid and next year doesn't happen he might not be in the big leagues for another year.

That lockout really could screw a lot of stuff up. Baseball would take a massive PR hit and they can't afford that.

The signing of White might indicate that the Sox management doubts Anthony will be back. That would be my guess what the trade indicated.
