Kraft on Christian Gonzalez: Team’s Offer Would Make Him “Highest-Paid Player Ever” at CB

So what happened to Patriots not discussing contracts with the media? And what does "highest paid" mean anyway without addressing guarantees, signing bonuses, and other such considerations?

And then, there's this:

This is pure stupidity. IF they are waiting for Witherspoon, and Seahawks/Witherspoon aren’t even close to a deal, the Pats/Gonzalez will be waiting a LONG time.

Sign the contract Gonzalez you greedy bastard !

Gonzo politely stated that these negotiations should be kept confidential (between his agent, himself, and The Patriots). It was a rebuke to BK trying to "Negotiate" through the Media. I'm not saying BK shouldn't have any input, but I am saying that publicly, he needs to keep his mouth shut!

Not sure how to take this but thought it was worthy to post

Interesting to post this after disclaiming any interest in negotiating in the media. Maybe his agent has decided not to wait for Seattle?

That’s why I said not sure how to take the post. The post was from that manager in the pic with Gonzo via Instagram. The writing on the menu could mean he is still negotiating to be the highest paid CB or bust. Then that guy posts the part about finalizing a 5 year contract. I would think Gonzo would have refuted it if it was not accurate. We will see

Once again, pick an amount your are willing to pay. You need not (should not) share that number publically or, unless you deem it wise tactically to do so, with Gonzo's representatives, but you should stick to it. If Gonzo demands more, trade the *****. The haul will be magnificent, and you'll have the dough to help pay for the other guys you will want to keep, you know, the reasonable ones with character.

I still think RK was not trying to negotiate as much as trying to tell everyone:

„This is all about …ME!!!, I, RK, am the Patriots. Look at me. Look at me.“

Let's re-state your position.

The team should have a number that is their limit. If Gonzo doesn't agree, trade him for whatever we can get in August or September.

There you go again, ……excising all the excess verbiage. Now the inanity is obvious to all the knuckleheads ( like me) who would have otherwise let him rant in peace and now we feel obligated to comment about how silly that post was.

FIFY.

At least this time the baseless subjective character assassination is muted to sniping rather than a full fusillade.

********.

"We don't negotiate through the media" is what the guy with the unpopular stance says. If Kraft had offered Gonzalez 4 years, $70 million then I guaran-goddamn-tee you Gonzalez (through his agent) would have leaked that offer and would be negotiating through the media.

Seahawks may note even want to sign Witherspoon because he's not a traditional CB. If Gonzo signs, then that will most likely mean he got intel from his agent that the Seahawks and Witherspoon are too far off.

Gonzo is better than Ty Law. The best Patriots CB since Michael Haynes. Even better than the awesome Raymond Clayborn.

Dude's going to be making serious bank soon. Top ten NFL player right now. A true shut down corner. A guy who comes around only a couple of times a decade.

And he's ours!

Until we decide to kick him to the curb.

Didn’t you hear, he’s a no-character scum bag according to some on PatsFans

That’s some revisionist history, the shiny new toy. Ty Law was GREAT. Hall of Fame great. Hell, Revis wore 24 because Law was his idol. Now Gonzalez may wind up a Hall of Famer, but too soon to say he is better than Law, Revis or Gilmore. Hell, Gilmore win Defensive Player of the Year for Christ’s sake.

Was he NFL Defensive Player of the year that year ?

Been some pretty good CBs in Foxboro, that's for sure.
