Great coach/predictable vanilla play caller.

Josh has little in the way of schemed plays and trickery, screens, shovel passes, QB draws, RPO’s, counter runs, misdirection, pre-snap motion along with unique play design to get guys open and spread the ball around… it’s a virtual wasteland.

When a flea flicker is the only trick play in your bag, maybe it’s time to dust off the projector and watch some old film. He’s done it before, been inventive and varied, but only after some losses and loud criticism in the media. He’ll do it for a game or two, it will look impressive…. then he’ll slide back into the same boring Power-I run, run up the middle, and pass.

We’ll never be confused with the most eclectic offenses in the league. This offense has to have exceptional talent, it’s the only way it will score.

They’ve always been very conservative, true to the basics. Get the fundamentals perfect. Don’t screw anything up.

Conventional wisdom becomes entrenched because it has been shown to work, over a long time base. What works most wins games most.

Deep bombs and trick plays that don’t work still are exciting. But would you prefer the frequent dopamine hits of potentially explosive plays that fizzle in a loss, or forego them for a boring win?

Why would a fan of team give one of its best coaches a stupid, gay sounding nickname?

It was said that McDaniels calls the game to win. Why would you want anything else.
Would you rather have Shanahan who calls the game to look like he’s smart and has single-handedly blown 2 SBs because of it?

I get it but I have felt this way about McDaniels for over a decade now. I was hoping the run game would change with the talk of incorporating plays from McVay etc but it was mostly the same. Just not enough growth from McDaniels imo and he doesn't seem to learn. Like remember when we embarrassed the Jets in every single way only for them to shut down everything we did well in the rematch and knocked us out of the playoffs. I don't feel Josh is capable of self reflection and doing anything similar to that and it will all be on Maye to overcome Josh's limitations.

Josh is a classic bully who consistently beats up the weaker teams and that will get to the playoffs but will get outcoached in the post season. I know most will disagree but I honestly think we should be actively searching for someone to replace Josh. We may have the guy in-house already similar to Zak Kuhr.

He had a lot of rookies to contend with last year. hopefully more experience will allow him to get more creative in the run game especially.

as I said, there are those that complain about him and call him Skippy, and then there are those that understand football

I believe Josh is a great offensive mind. Remember he Came in a Quality control guy.. BB loved his work ethics and he moved up the ladder of success.. I get people have thier opinions of him. But we have to look at the the fact GOAT has some and if not most of his best seasons under Josh.. Drake become and ALL PR0 and MVP candidate under him as well. Look at some others Ben Johnson is regarded as this great offensive mind would anyone say Caleb Williams is an all pro? I give Josh his flowers and drakes only going to get better and better in Josh's system.

You don’t seem to be aware of what happened in Vegas. Vrabel and McDaniels are not remotely comparable. Vrabel was liked while McDaniels was run out of his locker room twice.

That's an absurd statement. When you have had the success MacDaniels has had as an OC you will always have a coaching job in the NFL, and it's not even close to undeserved.

I’m not unhappy with McD’s results. There are times I’d like a different style but I know he’s got a plan and it seems to work well enough to satisfy me.

At times he looks like a football genius. Other times we cringe as we see goal line run after goal line run go nowhere leaving us with 3 points at best.

He's stubborn like that at times and it seems like he wants to run his gameplan whether its working or not, rather than adjust.

But the key difference this year may be personnel.

Mark my words, we're going to LOVE how McDaniels utilizes Romeo Doubs who can pretty much play every WR position including being a Welker-like slot receiver - but with the ability to go deep and do everything else.

Josh has been dreaming up ways to confound Ds with Doubs alone since signing him.

Then you've got the running game. Here again, the investments on the OL (fingers crossed Wilson is a better C than G) and Gilliam at FB are going to end our long suffering of short-yardage frustration, should all make for a much more productive run game

And a productive run game plus a better OL means Maye gets more time to throw - though he's been awfully accurate throwing on the run when too.

And of course, Maye probably IS our best RB and Josh already designs intentional run plays for him

And I haven't even gotten to what Brown means to the offense - stretching the field, and hopefully Josh will take advantage of any double coverage Brown gets and have Maye find the open man.

Honestly that's my only concern with McDaniels - now that he has Brown, will he abandon what's worked so well for him and Maye - specifically spreading the field and keeping Ds confounded? Brown had less catches than Diggs but on a LOT more targets last year. I'm just hoping they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I think this offense with all its talent, if used in a balanced way, could be better than the 2007 team, where we seemed to go to Welker and Moss on nearly every passing play, especially down the stretch, and Defenses caught on eventually.

Yeah and continued to do so in the SB. Despite the Giants not allowing it. The second last drive in the game was perfect. But the adjustments came way too late.

The irony is that it benefited the Patriots six years earlier. The Rams kept playing into the Patriots hands by throwing it all over the place. Which led to sacks, turnovers, and failed drives. Their offense finally figured it out late in the 4th quarter. But as everyone knows, it was too little too late and the Patriots dynasty was born.

He won three SB's as an OC. Sure. Do the Patriots not win any of those games with a different OC? That's not a shot at McD. That's just acknowledging an OC's job wasn't extremely tough with Tom Brady at QB.

McDaniels had a young QB facing one of the best defenses in recent memory. A QB without much experience. He didn't have Tom Brady out there anymore to check out of plays and get the ball out quick. I'm not suggesting the Patriots win if they change things up. Maybe Seattle still blows them out. Who knows.

But it looked like they didn't even try. That's my issue.

Yeah, I am not that impressed with Bo Nix. At times and frequently in the season, he plays like a QB shouldn't even be on an NFL roster. I think with another playcaller and offensive coach, I think Nix would be mentioned more with Penix and McCarthy than Maye, Daniels, and Williams from that draft class.

Nix's saving grace has been his fourth quarter play. We'll see if he can sustain that going forward.
