PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 3

Man his left knee must be toast.

Or at least the team thinks it is.

Wonder if he can get third-party insurance that covers it?
No. The team just doesn't want to be responsible for any injury that may occur post surgery.

The surgery he had done is very common. Roughly 30% of players coming out of college have the sort of debris in their knee that he did and it's a non-issue for them.

Kyle Williams WR7? Yikes

Brown, Doubs, Boutte, Williams, Hollins.

Unless he shows something more, I think that the Pats will find someone to take Douglas. Chism is probably #7 behind the rest currently.

But with WR dropping like flies, who knows what the final roster will look like.

Apparently he's showing a better understanding how Josh likes to use the slot WR....as opposed to running go routes from the slot. We'll see.

Pop started showing this by the end of last season. People seem to forget in week one he was squarely starting in the slot. After doing nothing for weeks that changed.

But by the latter half of last season he had become a third and long converter and worked his way back into the lineup. He even led the team in receptions in the Super Bowl.

I said this months ago, Pop, Boutte and Hollins are all in the last year of their contract. Something’s got to give. Part of that is who “wins” the job, part of that will be scheme fit in winning the job, part of that will be contract and who is most affordable.

Nobody should be concerned Kyle Williams is #7 on the WR depth chart in a non padded practice on day three. Nobody should read into that at all. It’s not football until the pads come on, and it’s far too early to be creating fictional depth charts or deciding who will get cut.

Yep

Yep
Could change when they start practicing with pads

Patriots.com updated the depth chart...which usually happens around this time of year.

- Brown and Boutte starting on the outside with Doubs inside
- Jones and Ponder starting at Edge
- Westover ahead of Raridon....for now
- Larison ahead of Miller
- Hudson ahead of Bryant

I always thought that if Boutte stays, the likely starting line up would be Brown in the X, Boutte in the Z (where I think he is better suited), and Doubs in the slot. Now I still think Brown will see a lot of time in slot which means that Boutte could be moved to the X and Doubs moved to the Z. I think the official positioning for WRs in a McDaniels' offense is perfunctory since he loves to move receivers around (see Edelman back in the day).

The only thing surprising is Hollins is backing up Brown in the X and Williams is backing up Boutte in the Z. I figured that would be the opposite. Maybe Brown is the Z and Boutte is the X, but I don't think so. Usually the X is listed first on the depth chart. I need to see the depth chart displayed in a formation to see which starter is lining up on the line which would be the Z and which is outside the TE which is the X.

So this depth chart has Williams no worse than 6th. This stuff is nonsense anyways.

But it's NOT nonsense that Arkin is getting snaps with the first team, and Marcus Bryant is first backup at left tackle.

Yeah...I think the one constant could be Boutte on the outside. I don't think his ankle will ever allow him to be productive in the slot like he was at times in college. Brown can play X, Y or Z and disguising what they are going to do with him is going to be a thing. IMO Doubs can play Z or Y but then again....putting him at X could be a wrinkle that teams might not expect. It will be fun to see how it plays out during the games.

Hudson is ahead of Bryant at LT

Another thing interesting is that they are listing their starting defense as a nickel defense rather than a base 3-4.

I think the entire lineup he has for the base looks solid.

Where’s the weak link in that group?

Maybe Jones and Ponder at edge? But there’s still Landry and Jacas and X and a couple of other youngsters to push them.
Elliss is the weak link against the run and in pass coverage.

Yeah. We will. but that could be them trying to Showcase him to move him for something rather than just cutting him.

I have a hard time seeing Douglas or Chism making the roster unless they use Hollins as a Hybrid TE.

Hudson is ahead of Bryant at LT

I was going by Bedard today who says he's moved ahead of Hudson, and also by the way they lined up yesterday.

Surgery may have been after the draft. I’m not sure. But if it was and he was coy with the team because his contract was still being negotiated that obviously backfired big time. Probably needs to blame his agent for that.

From the bits and pieces we've gotten:
- Team knew of the knee concerns prior to the draft
- Team knew that Jacas would have a procedure done
- Jacas had the procedure done and kept the team informed.
- Team didn't want to guarantee Jacas' contract for injury at all.
- We can only assume that Jacas' agent wanted the entire contract guaranteed for injury but this hasn't been confirmed.
- Team refused to give Jacas a PPA so he could attend OTAs and Mini-Camps.
- Team and Jacas FINALLY settled on the contract being guaranteed for injury except for the knee, which has a waiver on it.

I think it's just one of those things. I don't think there was any malice of agent doing anything but his job.

I understand both Points of view:
Team :
You're coming in injured.
Not just with 1 injury, but a few things.
Why should we cover you for injury when you're already damaged goods?
We're not giving you a PPA. We don't want to have to guarantee your entire contract if you get hurt during OTAs or Mini-camp if you haven't signed the contract.

Jacas Agent -
You knew about his medicals before the draft.
You traded up to get him despite the medicals.
You knew he was going to get the knee done. before you drafted him.
You know he missed only 1 game in 4 seasons and played through the bumps and bruises.
The knee is really a non-issue because 30% of all people have the issue and the surgery is minimally invasive and routine.
He kept in contact during rehab.

I had said that they should tie the guarantees for the following year into Games played. Such as 12 games in 2026 means the 2027 guarantees are there. 12 games for 2027 means the 2028 and 2029 guarantees kick in.

They compromised by giving Jacas the guarantees for injury with the exception of another injury to the left knee.

I don't think there was any "backfire". I think both sides had legit concerns and they found a mutual way to settle it. Yes, I wish it could have been done sooner, but it wasn't. And BOTH sides are at fault for that.

Interesting that Wallace is getting 2nd team RG snaps. It's going to be interesting to see if Rupcich, who can play OG and OT, gets the nod over Wallace or if they place Rupcich on the PS again since they can be fairly confident of moving him there since he's spent so much time there without other teams trying to poach him.
