I agree, but maybe he is still recovering from surgery and he was not completely forthcoming so the Pats are being overly cautious.

Recognizing that, there is no reason for Jacas to not release his surgeon to talk to the Pats if the knee was a minor procedure. Also the Pats traded for AJ who was draining his knee twice a week a few years back, so the Pats know a lot about knees - LOL.

Contract is signed so the time for his surgeon to provide information is past. I assume there was information exchanged. Even if the player and his agent tried to keep it under wraps the X-rays and MRIs will tell most of the story. I’m sure the Pats medical staff knows knees. There are lots of good knee surgeons around these days.

Personally I know more about knees than I ever wanted to know. For awhile I had my right knee surgeon and my left knee surgeon. Left knee guy did cartilage, right knee was ligaments. Right knee surgeon had been team orthopedic surgeon for the U.S. Women’s Olympic Ski Team. He also did Dee Brown’s knee, back in the day. He was good. I’m sure the Patriots have equally good team doctors.

So I’m pretty sure that both the team and the player have a good idea of how Jacas’ knee looks. The team is obviously taking a very conservative approach. I wonder if they may be punishing him by being harsh about their dissatisfaction with his communication about it. I hope so; it would be bad if the prognosis was really as uncertain as the waiver suggests.

Douglas and Chism both in top 6 won’t be permanent I’d guess. They may be looking the two side by side to decide which one is ahead on the depth chart.

I don’t love that. I would hope he could beat out Douglas and at minimum Chism.

Still early though. Now his chance to work his way up.

I think the entire lineup he has for the base looks solid.

Where’s the weak link in that group?

Maybe Jones and Ponder at edge? But there’s still Landry and Jacas and X and a couple of other youngsters to push them.

I dunno if that's accurate or means anything as he was one of the winners of the Offseason award.

Surgery may have been after the draft. I’m not sure. But if it was and he was coy with the team because his contract was still being negotiated that obviously backfired big time. Probably needs to blame his agent for that.

Maybe my concern for the Edge weakness can be answered by Swinson & Jacas turning into real players.
Jones & Ponder are probably mediocre DE's right now. Jones on the down-swing, and Ponder with unknown ceiling in a starting role.
But Swinson & Jacas have completely unknown potential. And it seems they're absolutely going to be part of the mix due to lack of current position group.

Yes, many teams including the Pats were aware of his knee and other ailments.

So there are 64 starting OT's in the league and he's rated as right in the middle. Yeah, that's OK, but makes the position one of the priority replacements for next year. Hence, Lomu.
