DRAFT Welcome to New England - Illinois Edge Gabe Jacas! (2nd round, #55)

I do get a kick out of these rookies that hold out, only to be terrible. Like Waston, it better be a valid reason Jacas refuses to sign. If Jacas wants his contract fully guaranteed, I'd take that as a major red flag.
Unless Jacas thinks he'll be the second coming in the end.

Mike V is going to sidestep that question: nothing to see here.

well....
Lowe played well the first game in Will's absence, then slowly regressed to being his bad old self and kinda forced them to go back to Will.
Let's hope Campbell plays LT like a Fouth Overall selection this season. A Fourth overall shouldn't be put on skates.

We know the exact amounts guaranteed for the slot before him and the slot after him - both very close to each other (and both around 80% if I recall correctly). So it's very likely an argument about an exclusion for a pre-existing condition, not the amount of the guarantee.

He was good, not great prior to injury.
His injury was significant for player that needs to depend on his footwork and ability to anchor.
He was also a rookie.
4th pick or not, lots of rookies struggle.
Carter was good at generating pressure, but not finishing. I'm sure he will be much better this year.
Hunter was ok, but nothing more and he was the 2nd overall pick.
Ward had lots of lumps, and was 1st overall.
I expect Campbell to be better, and I expect very good starter level play from him in the future.
4th pick or not, it takes time.

I believe that the guaranteed percentages are set by the league with the fist and first half of the 2nd round being guaranteed. There s a sliding scale from 97% to 67% for the last half of the second.

I think the issue was the normal participation agreement that the team wasn't willing to sign before he passed a physical.

If the injuries are bad enough, the team might not even sign him. Given the videos that doesn't seem to be the case.

The apparent non-disclosure of injuries may be a league and union issue with the agent.

What is your allegation about “ apparent non-disclosure of injuries” based on?

Disagreement about terms of the participation agreement seems unrelated to disclosure. I doubt details of customized participation agreements are routinely discussed pre-draft. Seems much more likely the team surprised Jacas and his agent by changing the terms from the standard participation agreement. We have no way to know whether that changes was made in response to some undisclosed information regarding the injury or procedure, but it seems irresponsible to assume it was without evidence. So, what is that evidence?

I saw a video of WC working out with about a half dozen pro bowl LT tackles at a summer camp. He looked like a midget in comparison. They all were physically bigger and looked much stronger

Apparently gone are the days when rookies eagerly bent over backwards to make a good first impression.

I was against signing an old vet but I'm now on board with signing Clowney on Monday if Jacas is not participating Saturday.

Care to back this up with a reference to the ACTUAL CBA?

BTW, SFBS, they knew EXACTLY the inuries that Jacas was recovering from at the time of the draft. Per usual, You pull garbage out and toss it so you can pretend to be having a meaningful conversation.

Campbell is taller and heavier than Tunsil, Williams and Sewell (by an inch/a few pounds). Prototypical LT size, except for the wingspan.

I think the looming shadow of Lomu will whip Campbell into shape pretty quick. No more whiffs, or he'll be carrying Moses' pads.
