I am expecting a pro bowl season

Need Drake to have a Pro bowl season for this to work again. Priority 1 Drake, fix your short game passes. Utilize the Underneath stuff with your backs. 3 to 8 yard range, touch passing that even the Fullback can catch! Quick, accurate and out in under 2 seconds like Brady did.
Why would you want the best downfield passer in the league, who led the league in completion percentage to give that up to be a dunk and dunk passer? Thats the worst thing you could ever do with this QB. If that’s what we game planned last year we would have been about 10-7

I listened to the Check the Mic podcast this morning. They broke down the seasons of the 2025 first round picks.

FWIW Mitch Schwartz didn't think the knee injury Campbell had was that serious for an OT.

Their assessment was that due to his lack of wingspan Campbell has to be 100% perfect in his technique. Other tackles with longer arms have an easier time recovering during a rep if they have the reach.
That extra one inch when his arms are fully extended (which they never are) is meaningless.

You guys are in dreamland about Will Campbell becoming elite cuz he's hanging out with other elite OTs. It doesn't get spread around like a virus. He's got inconsistent footwork in pass pro (He is very good in run blocking.), inadequate wingspan, and lacks strength. Just saying.
OT is one of the most coachable positions in football. Surrounding yourself with people that can help you level up is exactly the right move. Will he become elite? Who knows. Will it help him improve? Yes. More than sitting at home crying about it.

That's like saying you wouldn't want a basketball player to improve at free throws because he's amazing at dunking. How many points did we leave on the field because our short game sucked?

We'll see whether his transition from Surprisingly Agile Fat Kid to Daunting Muscle Man is yet advanced enough for such optimism.

the kid is smart, athletic, takes to coaching and is apparently healthy again.
Based on the tweets we see, I assume he is improving his strength and technique this offseason.
he now has season 1 under his belt, and should not be surprised what teams throw at him this season
in addition, rather than a fellow rookie beside him, he now has a pro bowl level player beside him.
I am excited to see his progress

Not to mention, but Maye was also dealing with injuries. Those throws were lacking his usual zip and accuracy even when he had time.

It’s not about being a deep ball thrower versus a dink/dunk guy. It’s about Drake having better command of the offense, locating and negating pressure and extending drives… and not just against the worst defenses in the NFL, but against the best.

Drake in the playoffs was a wake up call about how much he needs to improve. He’s got all the talent in the world, Brady had less than half that talent and athleticism… and he’s the best ever. Be better between the ears is the goal for 2026.

1000% agree
if Maye can cut his sacks in half simply by throwing to his check down, or throwing the ball away, without giving up his ability to make plays with his legs, this is easily a playoff team, capable of beating anyone.

No. It’s like saying I don’t want the best 3 point shooter in the league to stop taking 3s and only take 2s
We left no points on the field, because our short game didn’t suck. Maye led the league in completion %. We were 2nd in the league in scoring.
Maye created a lot of huge plays by extending plays instead of checking down.
Making up that something sucked to argue it needs to be improved isn’t an argument at all it’s ignorant.

Maye made a ton of big plays by extending the play and getting the ball downfield and by running. Turning him into a checkdown Charlie takes away his greatest strengths
Reducing sacks by eliminating big plays is not a win.

As much as you might want it...it's a mistake to ask your QB to be one dimensional. In every sport...it's always better to be able to beat your opponent in multiple ways. The more Maye can do...the better. Let's not limit his growth. Obviously it's common sense.

You act like checking down is a bad thing. Being more efficient, extending drives, especially against playoff level defenses would be a good thing. Recognizing pressure before the snap and having a plan, is better than being uber athletic and winging it. There's a cerebral side of QB play. There's less room for error and the margins shrink in the playoffs.

Tom Brady averaged double digit fumbles in 2001, 2002, 2003... the highest of his career. Both Tom's sack and INT percentages in these formative years were also the highest of his career. Tom Brady got a lot better from 2000-2004. This is true of most young QB's who end up really good, there are speed bumps in that first contract.

Last year's playoffs were an eye opener, and it wasn't just the blocking. Drake played poorly and they won regardless. The doors got blown off against the best team in the NFL in the final game. If people don't realize as good as Drake Maye looked in 2025, that he still has a lot of room for improvement, they're either lying to themselves or staring at fantasy stats.

As long as he doesn’t hang around with Spencer Rattler he’ll be OK

I will probably say this another 10 to 20 times, but: Maye throws more than 10 yards downfield about 10-12 times a game. That's it. He runs when things break down or he sees an opening, but they don't want him doing tons of designed runs.

That said, it would help if he had someone (I dunno, maybe Chism? ) who could quickly get open at the sticks.

Who said anything about one dimensional? I want him
To take advantage of his strengths. I do not want to coach him to give up on extending plays. Every offense includes short quick passes, ours should have fewer that other trans because we have the best qb in the league at the combination of downfield accuracy, extending posts and using his legs.
It’s not “growth”, he is fully capable of playing dunk and dunk, we just are t as good if we force that kind of an offense.

Yes but people are calling for him to become that. 10-12 downfield throws is a lot in this league. And the success of the offense was heavily predicated on him extending plays to run and to make downfield throws.

No I addressed the point. You cannot program him to check down quickly without deprogramming his play making, extending plays and making big plays.
