This may be a waste of a thread. It shouldn't be very long.

Barring health issues or retirement, we have a very good seven-man line, certainly good enough for a playoff team.
Campbell, AVT, Wilson, Onwenu, Moses
Lomu, Brown

We can certainly argue about the players beyond the first seven. What a truly GREAT position to be in after only a year and two offseasons!

Between Crownover, Bryant and Hudson we should have an adequate #4 OT.

Solid #5 IOL who can also be #3 OC is only real weakness, IMO

This is tangent to the OL questions. It will be very interesting to see how we arrange the offensive roster. 5 or 6 WR's? 9 or 10 WRs? How many RB's on the roster now that we have brought back the FB as a major position. If we are going with a FB this season, how do we handle the backup position for him. Is he on the roster or is, let's say Lampke, always on the PS, or on the actual roster making us keep 5 or 6 RB's

As you can see there are going to be hard choices for how many people we are going to have to have at each position. I think the OL depth is still so iffy we will should carry 10 but I wonder if we can. Can we really be safe carrying just 3 RB's and 2 FB's, but can we afford to carry 6 RB's. Did we really waste a draft pick by picking a QB in a year when we likely will only carry 2 QBs on the rosters. How many TE's. Sounds like 4 minimum

So, 10 OL, 4 TE's, 6 WR's, 6 RB's 2 QB's That's 28 offensive players IF we are being prudent with our offensive depth and manage to keep our #3 QB on the PS That's leaves us with only 22defensive players if we keep the bare minimum of 3 ST's guys. Clearly that isn't going to work. So we are going to need to drop at LEAST 3 offensive roster spots.

Who is on your list?????

Let's start with RB/FB (4) where I don't there should be too much debate.

FULLBACK (1)
Most teams don't carry one FB. I don't think that we'll carry 2. We should have a backup on the Practice Squad, likely Lampe.

RUNNING BACK (3)
Three has always seem right for me, unless we had a ST #4.
We have Stevenson and Henderson who will ger almost all the reps barring injury.
The backup RB will hopefully also be a kick returner. In any case, we have a lot completion for the roster and for the PS spot(s).

TE (3)
Henry, Raridon and

I thought this was the right number before Hill was injured. UI still think it right. Dippre is being developed for this. He should make the roster as the #3 TE. I know: others could beat him out. I think it more likely that we carry only 2 with 2 more on the PS and an OT being the jumbo 6th back. I actually could see Crownover being or jumbo back and emergency TE. I would expect that to happen if Dippre is inactive as he often could be if Raridon is ready for prime time.

WR (6)
I suspect that we will have 6. My preference is 5, with a couple on the PS.

QB (2)
For this thread, I'll assume 2, although my strong preference is to always carry a 3rd.

OL (9)
We have the obvious 7 plus a 4th OT and a 5th IOL that hopefully can be an emergency center. In any case, I see us carrying 3 OL's on the PS (OT, OG, C).

I just don't see us carrying a 5th OT just because we have trouble choosing.

ONE POSSIBILITY

OFFENSE (24)
QB (2)
RB (3)
FB (1)
WR (6)
OL (9)
TE (3)

DEFENSE (24)
DL (5) Williams, Barmore, Durden, Farmer, Gregory/Taylor
EDGE (5)
ILB (4)
CB (6)
S (4)

SPECIAL TEAMS (4)

PLAYER 53 (1)

NOTES
1) a 4th S isn't a lock to happen. Schooler could be the emergency #4 with another being on the Practice Squad.
2) 6 DL's make a lot of sense.
3) We could carry a 3rd QB.

Re: RBs

From a technical standpoint, I think you could actually start the first month of season with only 2 RB. With all the call up possibilities you can still have 3+FB on a gameday roster.

The problem with that is that you expose guys to PS theft. Our 3d RB is too good to risk PS. So a moot point.

But since the OP said the thread had no purpose, I thought I could make one pointless post.
