So I thought these two screen shots from the official Patriots.com player pages might be a useful memory refresher for those who apparently weren’t paying attention during the draft last year, or just plumb forgot. Take note of the height and weight according to the team.

Adding layers of depth and perpetually improving is how you do it. With the fat cut out I predict it will look something like this:

LT – Will Campbell, Caleb Lomu, Lorenz Metz (PS),
LG – Alijah Vera-Tucker, Sebastian Gutierrez (PS),
C – Jared Wilson, Ben Brown,
RG – Michael Onwenu, Jacob Rizy (PS),
RT – Morgan Moses, Marcus Bryant, Dametrious Crownover,

Some will look at the depth chart and think it’s tackle heavy and guard light, but I’d remind them Campbell and Lomu are athletic enough to play guard and they’ll probably keep some combination of Rizy and/or Gutierrez on the practice squad.

There’s some projection here with the young guys, but Marrone is one of the best in the business. They’re bigger, stronger and more athletic.

Also a big part of the overall blocking problem last year was the FB, TE’s and Drake Maye’s inability to recognize pressure or deal with it. The offense should be much better this season, even if rankings look similar to last season with tougher opponents to face.

Assuming health and development by the youth this could be a top ten offensive line in 2026.

Compared to the end of last year:
- AVT is top-tier LG, and his presence also helps the C and LT. Wilson as an out of position rookie LG wasn't great.
- Wilson however will be a legit center, with 2 experienced G's beside him. Bradbury was undersized and had a rookie on his left.
- Campbell improves to a legit LT, recovered from his injury, now a sophomore, and with a strong experienced LG beside him
- RT remains solid with Moses, but now we have premier depth with Lomu
- RG remains solid with Onwenu
- OT depth improved: Lomu's better than anyone we had last year. Crownover is promising, Hudson or Bryant will stick.
- OC depth is the same, which is pretty solid with Brown
- OG depth is about the same, which is sub-par: Wallace, Rupcich. Nervous about this spot given AVT's injury history.

I’d forgotten about Metz. He’s a big boy too….

OT: Campbell, Moses
OT backups: Lemu, Bryant/Crownover
IOL: AVT, Wilson, Onwenu
IOL backups: Brown, Wallace/Rupcick/Rizy

the only real need on Offense

I would expect that the player would also be our #3 center (emergency center is fine). We usually have 3, and had 3 last year.

I was initially underwhelmed by this report because I saw OT as his position and we are up to our necks in tackles. But then @Zuma posted his scouting report on the “Offense is loaded” thread and I noticed it was assuming he would switch to guard. Also see he spent three years at Frostburg playing LT then switched sides to RT when he transferred to UMd, and was projected as a guard in the NFL. Maybe he could have some versatility?

What did that say? I just read it, and I’m not sure what the point is, or if it even has one beyond Lomu got a lot of work in minicamp.

Headline seems a bit misleading, “too good to be true” usually implies fool’s gold, but nothing in that report or elsewhere indicates Lomu is fool’s gold. As the article points out he has a lot to learn and development and is behind solid starters across the line. Having a good rookie that can’t break the starting lineup seems good, but something to be hoped is true.

My thought reading it was that I hope it’s true we have a player with first round talent and starting potential as backup for multiple OL positions. That’s an abundance of riches on a line that was impoverished before last off season.
