DRAFT Welcome Caleb Lomu OT Utah

They are gonna wreck Lomu....He's a left Tackle...watch.

Hopefully they will ruin him the same way Tristan Wirfs and Penei Sewell were ruined being moved to the right side.

Agree that Lomu is a natural LT, but not sure getting him to develop versatility will ruin him. It could make him a better overall player.

They can't help themselves, they HAVE to be right!
" See, I told you so"

They'd rather be right than have a player flourish.... and they call themselves Fans.

Bah, typical dipsht PF idiocy.
Kind of like the people who wanted A.J. Brown.

What do you base this on? What is it that says 'natural LT' other than he played there for a year in colllege.

Yep.

Caleb Lomu's not here to play Right Tackle...
You may be wrong. Guy's the most talented OL player on the Pats since I don’t know when.

He should be the LT for the next 10 years or so. But the sunk cost fallacy has TRex there. For probably just this season.

Not jumping to conclusions this early, but Lomu's versatility, effort and willingness all jump out so far. We may just possibly have gotten lucky.

This sounds argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.

I say Lomu is a "natural LT" because:

1. He has played LT almost exclusively in the past, both in HS and college (2 years at Utah, not 1).

2.Utah chose to move #9 overall pick Spencer from LT in 2023 to RT in 2024-2025 in order to use Lomu at LT. They obviously viewed Lomu as better at LT.

3. Lomu's footwork, lateral movement skills, mirroring and redirect ability all make him a good fit as a blind side protector.

Lomu's versatility appears to be a plus, but it really shouldn't be a surprise that LT is his obvious best fit.

Depending on the health and other factors along our OL, Stumpy could be in play at All Four non-Center positions in 2027...

Hard to be great when wearing so many hats…but that’s what we need in 2026….good at a few positions along the line wearing multiple hats. He can be great in 2027 and beyond.

Yep; they also gotta figure that he's better option than any of Wallace, Rupcich & Jellybean Bryant... And they're not wrong.

I'm not sure everyone knows you're being facetious as there'e a nice long list of college LTs (especially undersized LTs) switching to RT in the NFL.

I'm sure Lomu is going to put on more weight and muscle but his playing weight in college was closer to 305 than the 320 we see with most LTs.

Penei Sewell is one you mentioned - Joe Alt comes to mind - Troy Fautanu too - and these guys were standout all All-American LTs in college. Seems to me converting from LT to RT is a lot easier than converting from RT to LT for a right-handed QB, especially.

Which does make me wonder if left-handers Michael Penix and Tua have their jobs complicated with RTs that are subjected to the pressures of an LT

Same as Solder his rookie season, they had no starting spot immediately available for him so he was slated to backup both tackle and both guard spots on gameday.

Ultimately they ended up needing Nate to start, but his versatility was good to have at the start of the season.

I don’t care who plays left tackle as long as he’s the best one we have on the roster. That’s all I ask of Vrabel and the coaching staff. If Will is better than make him the starter. If Lomu is better than make him the starter and sort out the feelings afterwards.
Well said. Because truthfully it’s that simple. We are in a good position if we are choosing the best of 2 good tackles to play the left side. Remember our OLine 2 years ago.
