$110m is misleading. Only $31m in guarantees. Plus it doesn't go into effect until next year so the Pack are holding him to $5.75 this year. Average over the next 5 years is a little over $23m AAV.

Doubs contract is essentially 2 years at 35 million, which is more than Watson. The only way Doubs gets more than that is if he outplays the contract.

Anymore than guaranteed money on a contract is actually team friendly. They hold the cards on how to handle the remainder of the contract, not the player.

The lack of guaranteed money for such a large contract is rare... usually the bigger the contract the better the player so the more that has to be paid up front. The fact that only near 1/4 of this is actually guaranteed is kind of shocking. I would imagine this means a massive fake year at the end.

As for the talk of the Doubs contract... we will see... I don't love it and don't hate it. My favorite thing about it is they can cut bait easily in year two.. They are paying Doubs as if he is a solid #2 WR... Is he? No one knows for sure yet... he could be. GB didn't have the pass passing attack and his chances were limited. He averaged about 45 YPG... and I could easily see that going to 50 in a better situation with a better QB and more attempts. If that happens suddenly he is getting 800+ a year and the contract doesn't look so bad. To me around 800 yards is the magic number here for this contract. He has never done it... but to me that is when you start becoming a quality #2... at least if you get it without being force fed.

If he under performs cut bait after 2 years... if he is what you think and the cap continues to go up... suddenly year 3 and especially 4 don't look so bad.

They engage in cooperative capitalism, the same thing that drives most industries and makes the entire economy work through the socialization of risk (in its most obvious form, the insurance industry; in less obvious form, finance).

Communism removes all that and replaces it with a centrally planned, single decision hierarchy system (which has never existed except as a marketing meme).

I get the irritation with the overbearing guardrails they owners put up; but they are essentially just franchise owners in a single business.

he is playing on $4m deal this year, and he got $31m in guarantees
in theory he is on a 2/$35m deal. $17m aav
if he performs, he is signed at 2026 dollar values
if he injures, or gets lazy, he has reasonable outs to the deal with no guaranteed money
