Christian Watson gets 110.5 million extension

Why? No need to protect idiots from their own idiocy.

The League has a hard cap. That’s good enough.
I agree.

If the players want to put caps on the compensation of certain positions, they can certainly do that when the NFL contract comes up.

Certainly, caps would favor the vast majority of union members.

In any case, teams that consistently overpay top players will always have less for their other players, usually making them less competitive.

As an aside, teams with cap discipline will do very well if other teams continue to pay more and more.

We talk about setting the market as if once an outrageous amount is paid, other teams will be forced to pay the same or more. That simply isn't the case.

Watson is such a redundant piece for Green Bay, You could have Wicks, Reed or Holden fill his roll just as easily. Idiotic overpay

Doubs is more expensive

How is Doubs more expensive at 17 than Watson at 23?

Contracts are only worth the guaranteed money.

Doubs contract is essentially 2 years at 35 million, which is more than Watson. The only way Doubs gets more than that is if he outplays the contract.

Anymore than guaranteed money on a contract is actually team friendly. They hold the cards on how to handle the remainder of the contract, not the player.

Only the bonus is guaranteed. He will also get another $4M in 2026.

At ny given point the only dead money is the unamortized portion of the signing bonus. One could consider this a one year contract for $35M and an ongoing team option at $19M or so a year.

NFL Owners already engage in communism and have multitudes of other guardrails directing their activities.
You can't fix nepo-baby stupid. If these owners want to give out stupid contracts, it's their right to do so.

The lack of guaranteed money for such a large contract is rare... usually the biggest the contract the better the player so the more that has to be paid up front. The fact that only near 1/4 of this is actually guaranteed is kind of shocking. I would imagine this means a massive fake year at the end.

As for the talk of the Doubs contract... we will see... I don't love it and don't hate it. My favorite thing about it is they can cut bait easily in year two.. They are paying Doubs as if he is a solid #2 WR... Is he? No one knows for sure yet... he could be. GB didn't have the pass passing attack and his chances were limited. He averaged about 45 YPG... and I could easily see that going to 50 in a better situation with a better QB and more attempts. If that happens suddenly he is getting 800+ a year and the contract doesn't look so bad. To me around 800 yards is the magic number here for this contract. He has never done it... but to me that is when you start becoming a quality #2... at least if you get it without being force fed.

If he under performs cut bait after 2 years... if he is what you think and the cap continues to go up... suddenly year 3 and especially 4 don't look so bad.
