PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Go to ChatGPT and type in "Does AJ Brown have knee drainage issues".

That's why we got him for about the same as DJ Moore, and less than Waddle.

There would be a risk to anyone acquired. Teams just aren't giving up Chase, Jefferson, JSN, or Lamb.

Gronk had back issues that many thought he'd never play a down when drafted. The great ones push though and so far AJ Brown has.

At the WR position I accept high upside, high risk. Of the stud WRs we've looked at in the last few years (Ridley, Aiyuk, Higgins (who else) AJ Brown is the best option even with the risk he brings.

But he doesn’t have a big contract at all for the next two years. That is part of why the compensation is a first. His projected cap hits for 26 is under 7M and for 27 is under 11M
Good to know, certainly makes it easier to swallow. I still don’t like the diva attitude in a championship locker room. I assume he can be on better behavior with a new start over 2 years before he probably wears out his welcome again.

As a physician, I can tell you that there are all kinds of reasons to have "Drainage issues". It's largely due to injury, but many of those injuries resolve albeit not in the middle of a season. So the symptoms can persist. I don't think any of us can know whether this was an acute injury that would heal with rest in the offseason or whether this a degenerative condition that will continue to be symptomatic and continue to worsen.

Do I like the move? Eh! If he gives one hint of trouble or our he hinders the development of our younger receivers in any way, this will become a significantly worse deal.

The voice of reason, thank you.
We don't know what we don't know, ChatGTP be damned.

But you're looking at a period when the Patriots drafted very poorly in the 1st round. Prior to that they had a 66% hit rate on players taken in the first 50.

Seymour, Light, Graham, Watson, Wilfork, Warren, Wilson, Marquise Hill, Mankins, Maroney, Chad Jackson, Merriweather, Mayo, Chung, Brace, Darius Butler, Vollmer, McCourty, Gronk, Solder, Dowling.

14 for 21 and 14 for 20 if you don't count Marquise Hill.

8 or 9 of these guys were Pro Bowlers
but then I could say you are looking at a period where they drafted particularly well.
If you split the difference it's a 50% hit rate.

The question remains, would you prefer to take a coin flip on a 1st rounder or use that 1st rounder on a proven commodity like AJ Brown for a very solid 2-3 year period while your QB is on a decent deal if you think AJ puts you over the top.

I'm NOT saying it's the only right decision -- what I'm saying is that it is a reasonable bet.

Vrabel is also just good at dealing with players like Brown and Diggs. He does not shy away from being honest and does not ignore the elephant in the room. That's something he and BB have in common. A lot of """"headache"""" players are really just exposing their *****made coaches, imo.

Now if Williams would take a big step forward, this team could be really fun.

Trollin right on cue. Guess he’s sour today that nobody sent him any juicy DM or text message fake scoops.

I don’t think Volin believes 4/5 of the dung he writes. His default position is simply pissing on the Pats.

Thanks Doc, but we do know. Brown has a cap hit of $7M this year, and $11M next year so the Pats can stay on schedule signing Gonzo and Maye even after trading for Brown. Why is a #1 WR like Brown with minimal cap hits available for a late 1st rounder? Why didn't the other 30 teams offer a 1st round pick that is most likely more attractive than the Pats 1st? The answer to the questions is because Brown has a chronic knee issue. Real simple actually. We do know.

We don't know unless our head is in the sand. Do you also think Onwenu took a $7M haircut because he loves playing for the Pats? Let's be honest, Onwenu's agent called every other team and Onwenu's market value is $10M.

The other 31 teams did not want to give up an earlier 1st round pick for AJ Brown who only costs $7M and $11M against the cap for '26 and '27 because why? We don't know? A bit of common sense says that AJ Brown has a chronic knee issue and the Pats are taking a bet he can make it two more years. Maybe he can, maybe he can't. Based on the playoffs last year, the odds do not look good. That is the risk the Pats are taking, and we know it. Of course if you think the voice of reason says otherwise, well ....................................................................

It's done. I guess they didn't listen to my advice (ha ha!): no more than a 3 and a 5.
I've been a Pats fan forever, but this is a Lombardi play. Nothing else justifies a 1 at this point. I can only hope I'm wrong.
So, I guess I'll see everybody who's over the moon about this at the podium in SoFi next February.
If we get 3 WR1 years out of AJ, and he does his part in deep playoff runs, how is that not worth it? Right out of the gate, week 1 in Seattle, 100 yards and a TD. Helps Maye become MVP, other FA receivers line up when he's done. It's worth it.

Any trepidation I had about the trade compensation is now gone knowing that Volin is against the trade.
Thought I read in Volin’s column this morning that it may be many weeks and perhaps longer before Brown is dealt! Gheesh, the more this guy writes, the more “Tomase-ian” he gets…

So we know for sure it's a chronic issue that will impact his effectiveness?
I don't know that, and I have a hard time believing we would make the trade if that were the case.
It's common sense to say he's had problems in the past, it's guesswork to say it's chronic.
