Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
I am still NOT ALL IN on AJB.

I am wary of the cap charge......the man is almost 30.....

He is 28. His cap charge this year would be something like $7 million.

His cap charge, for the Pats, in 2026 would be $7m
His cap charge is 2027 for the Pats, would be $17.8m
2028-$17.8m
2029-$23.6m
2030-$53m
In 2028, 29 and 30, Browns salary is not guaranteed
it's a very favorable deal for the Pats if they make the deal, only if Brown honors his contract, and doesn't demand a re-do

Where are you getting the 7 million cap charge ?

I read it somewhere. He is due like a $27 million option bonus that the Pats would pay and his base salary is only $1.3 million.

His current cap hit is $23 million and that includes all the bonus money already paid to him by the Eagles and if he was traded before June 1st, that cap hit would have gone up $20 million. So even if I am wrong, his cap hit this year for the Pats would be significantly less than $23 million.

But here is a link to his contract.

I was looking at over the cap pre trade. Always confusing to figure out what the new charge would be after a team trades for said player

He'll still be 30-1/2 when the 2027 season is over.

He's 28, gonna be 29 in 40ish days with a known knee issue. What that issue is...who really knows but knees and WRs isn't a good combo. I would like A.J Brown on the team but giving up a first is crazy for a 29 year old. People keep saying Waddle got a first and a third. Yeah, he's 2 years younger.

And 22M the year after….after we pay Gonzo and start talking about an extension for Maye.

Brown not going to the Pats will not be the biggest upset since (not) Larry Fitzgerald was seen at the airport and the bizarre rumors, but SB42. The media is expecting this to happen at this point.

Which is why I expect it not to happen. It's been pure media BS.

On BSPN the clickbait trade rumors have at least 4 teams who "should" trade for AJ Brown; Chiefs, Ravens, Jaguars, Rams.

May be made up crap but if true and there really is competition for Brown, Pats may not get him with just a second rounder. # of those 4 teams could easily offer a first and Jags could offer Brian Thomas.

I still say "walk away" if a second and a 4th are not enough

See this is the type of commitment you want out of your #1 receiver.

Well we’ve got “D-Day” on 6/6 and now possibly “A.J.-Day” on 6/1. I’ve got this sinking feeling that the Chiefs are gonna “swoop” in on the Eagles and obtain Brown fir a 3rd round pick this coming draft and a swap of 7th rounders in 2029. And to top it off, “Mahomes & Brown” becomes the next version of “Brady & Moss” while the Pats pick up Thornton on waivers from the Chiefs…..

Then we all should be OUTRAGED since we have put in a LOT of hard effort to get this thread to a 125 ****ing pages. Where is OUR payback? We should sue. I'd say for about 10 BILLION dollars. Then we can start a $1.7 BILLION slush fund to pay us off and all our prison buddies.

How would Brown's cap charge be $7m?

Salary - 1.3Mil , Workout Bonus of 250K.

Are there 5M in incentives that he could earn during the year that the Pats would have to account for?

The $27M Option bonus for 2026 was already paid by Philly. It was due on the 3rd day of the league year. Philly paying the option is why they had to wait until June 1st. So that the Proration from it wouldn't all fast forward to 2026. Just like the remaining proration from the 2025 option bonus. It will hit the 2027 cap for Philly, not the 2026.

That plus the fact that the CBA does not allow trades to be processed as "post-6/1" transactions the way it does for releases.
