I totally get the rights/nose/swing your arm point, and I get the argument about the Pharisees. It's based on the needs of the gospel writers, though in combination with whatever historical info survives in the gospels and might be gleaned from the historical earliest letters of Paul, in the context of examination without assuming belief in the religion. (The same method is used all the time re: Judaism, and I am comfortable with it.)

The historical Jesus and early Christian history is only important here to highlight how fair or unfair the depictions of the Pharisees in the Greek bible are. It's pretty much agreed upon that there's an animus there against the Jewish authorities, and an effort to make the Christian religion acceptable to Rome -- e.g.., Pontius Pilate's unlikely reluctance to deal harshly with Jesus, the "tradition" of setting one prisoner free for Passover, etc. They do make the Pharisees the villain of the story. The historicity is of course a whole field of study (as it is with historical views on Judaism, and scholars from all backgrounds are pretty savage about the storytelling freedom of those who put together the Hebrew bible.)

Here's how one religion professor explained the "Sadducees and Pharisees" in the context of first century Christian writings, especially those purporting to echo Jesus' actual words - Saying "O ye Sadducees and Pharisees" is sort of like a modern American saying "O ye Democrats and Republicans." They were the two main "parties" in the Jewish hierarchy. The Pharisees were always more numerous, and favored an interpretation of the law that everybody could embrace; the Sadducees were an elite, fewer in number, I believe more likely to be wealthy, and stricter in terms of adherence to the law. Critically, they held that you could only perform meaningful worship in the Temple in Jerusalem. No temple, no Sadducees. They also, if I recall my studies correctly, denied life after death, whereas the Pharisees were cool with varying beliefs on the topic (for example, a spiritual life to come and a physical resurrection, the same circle Christians have been squaring for a couple thousand years.)

I can't vouch for the extent to which the Jewish authorities of the first centuries were comparable to the Taliban. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that they still did some barbaric sh*t, but in practice, Jewish authorities rarely carried out death penalties (for example.) The Death Penalty in Jewish Tradition | My Jewish Learning

The famous "Eye for an eye" code we hear so much about was reduced to a monetary award system, similar to insurance payouts we hear so much about, but due from wrongdoer to an aggrieved party. I believe that also happened in ancient times, rather than the comparatively modern medieval era

By the way, I don't think it's a coincidence that the two child religions, which both preach that they have a new dispensation to universalize the religion of the God of the Jews, developed systems of enforcement that led to enormous persecutions. One simple explanation has nothing to do with "morality": They both achieved power at the level of empire. That's a huge enabler, if you have intolerant doctrine. Your local San Hedrin can't get together the resources to achieve what Christendom or Islam could, not to mention the toll they exacted vis a vis their coreligionists, when in-house disagreements occured.

Anyway, within a couple of centuries of Jesus' life, the Sadducees didn't even figure into things, although he never saw that happen in his lifetime.

This stuff will set off the same "authorities" who dictate to us all how we should feel about morality, and sorry if/when that happens. I don't have any problem, really, with Christians using the tropes of the Christian religion regarding the tag of "Pharisees"; it's more a "fun fact" point, although people do use the "Pharisees" language in such a way as to make it stealth-antisemitic (so probably there are some activists who might make more of it.) In any event, I know that no harm was intended and that there's no hidden antisemitic agenda on your part!

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Thanks again! Very interesting.

Your comments about the treatment in the Greek Bible and Pilate’s reluctance to treat Jesus harshly both play into my instinct to ascribe secular political motives. As you pointed out, we are talking about empire level power politics, and proclaiming support by God almighty is part of every empire playbook even unto the present day.

And the <%religion_name%>_Taliban and their local flavor of Sharia are really all just trying to protect the cohesion of their society by oppressing free thinkers and deviants. Another standard playbook chapter.

It’s just the intersection of religion and politics. What could possibly go wrong?

I'll discuss the topic for however long I feel.

Still wondering where I pushed my beliefs on others.... if you're comfortable being a ****, that's on you

Still wondering where I pushed my beliefs on others.... if you're comfortable being a ****, that's on you

There isn't enough hay in Texas to build a strawman as big as the one you just came up with here.

Still wondering where I pushed my beliefs on others.... if you're comfortable being a ****, that's on you
You’re calling names and trying to insult me just because I don’t follow your beliefs, and you think you’re not pushing your beliefs on others. SMH. You must be dumber than a post.

Being called a **** by someone who is really ****oo is neither the insult nor the flex you think it is.

Too bad you’ll never know how lovely a woman can bed when she has two unselfish men making love to her. Maybe your wife or daughter could’ve told you, when they got back from their vacation on Epstein Island, but they were too scared of you.

It’s been fun, but your teeny weenie energy is getting tiresome. I pray you will get all the joy and love in your life that your faith deserves. See ya!

Was that season ticket holder event with Vrabel the other night only for club seat holders? I was wondering if I missed an invitation. Did you get anything?
Good question. I get so many emails from them, mostly sales on clothing, so most get deleted. I went and checked deleted emails, the only invite I see is for the draft party, so maybe it was for the club seats, if so it should state that. I just texted a guy we tailgate with who owns his tickets to see if he received an invite.

Tune my buddy didn’t receive an invite either, so it must’ve been for club seat owners.

National media scour local media for content, local media scour this place for content. Local sports media rely almost exclusively on forums like this to create content and gauge the mindset of fandom.

That's just your opinion. I think the following thread is far more on-target, and it backs up what I posted earlier.

They haven’t.

Thus my use of the future tense.

That you think Vrabel’s home situation will affect the players of the National Felon League’s opinion of him is laughable. Stefon Diggs was a cheating poon hound… did it bother his teammates?

We know one player posted that his heart "breaks" for those rejecting his faith and noted he was praying for his critics.

You keep trying to paint this as me trying to quash something

Maybe because you've repeatedly post things such as "stop posting"? Nah, that's not an attempt to squash a discussion, says the Woz.

it’s a deflection for the fact you alone have almost carried this entire thread by yourself and when it slowed down you quickly stepped in to pump it up to keep it going. It’s an artificial pump.

It's a discussion forum. We discuss things. If this bothers you, just hit the Ignore button or go read a book.

I gave up my ST’s of 30 years to a friend last year because I moved to SC. Yes the Club seats and Luxury Suite seats got the invitation just like when the SB lottery tickets comes back 10 minutes after we clinch to go to the SB with a notice that I did not win tickets because the above mentioned gets them all.
The problem with that is people who don’t even pay for seats get those invitations because the owners of those seats pass them out to business partners. Who in turn give it to their neighbors and such.

Local media unquestionably cull from these forums. The original forum was the Boston Globe and they had their reporters create profiles on this exciting new internet thing.

Over the years topics that originated on forums wound up on talk radio and in print the very next day… and still do. These media types aren’t that creative.
Thus my use of the future tense.
Still waiting….
Maybe because you've repeatedly post things such as "stop posting"? Nah, that's not an attempt to squash a discussion, says the Woz.
I said “stop posting” to you and other posters opining how long this would linger and why it was still at the top of the news cycle… nothing has changed.

Mike Vrabel has to be accountable for his actions, you be responsible for your own. There’s nothing shocking about infidelity. By the time preseason begins this will be a non-story except to salacious gossip peddlers; actual football fans and the players won’t care.

But I get it, it’s a slow news cycle and you have nothing else to talk about. I’m done contributing to the foolishness and faux outrage on this thread, I leave you to it.

You’re calling names and trying to insult me just because I don’t follow your beliefs,
Ah, the poor little **** knows how to dish out insults but can’t take them…
and you think you’re not pushing your beliefs on others. SMH.
I have repeatedly asked for an example.

You are yet to provide one.
Being called a **** by someone who is really ****oo is neither the insult nor the flex you think it is.
You’re the one who openly admitted you and many of your friends are ****s.

I’m not “flexing” in any way. I am calling you a **** because you openly admitted you are one.

Too bad you’ll never know how lovely a woman can bed when she has two unselfish men making love to her. Maybe your wife or daughter could’ve told you, when they got back from their vacation on Epstein Island, but they were too scared of you.
You openly admitted your wife seeks sexual gratification in the arms of other men AND that you’re cool with that.

There’s a name for those types of women - and for the men who meekly allow it.

Poor Vrabel. B’s done, C’s done. Sox suck. Only thing for Boston media to talk about til TC is Mike and Diane
I think he’s lucky the Red Sox are as atrocious as they are. It makes Boston fans happy because they have something to complain about.

Boston fans talk more about the Sox in a year such as this one than they would if the Sox were 25-15.

That's your opinion/perception, one I don't agree with.

I can't picture national media scrubbing this site for content.

I've never heard a single national media outlet mention this site.

Local media might read it from time to time, but clearly they get most of their queues from other platforms.

Those platforms are primarily xitter and u2b.

They themselves tell us that's what they do.

Because what happened may have an impact in the future. Also, more shoes may drop.

Guess what, you just gave us something new to discuss.

Wozzy says Vrabel's actions won't affect the football team in the least -- discuss.

This is an example of how your attempts to squash the discussion just adds more energy to it.

Practice what you preach and stop posting about it, that's the best way for it to all fade away.

IMO your real problem isn't that you want the discussion to stop, it's that you want to be the one to shut it down.
