Whereas 2026 took a long time to bring up FAILs, we seem to have hit a pair of them right out of the gate. [Seriously, you're not even going to explain why the Pats are going tackle for the third year in a row?]

FOX's Rob Rang:

25. Patriots: Ryan Baer, OT, Pittsburgh

Similar in some ways to 2026 first-round pick Blake Miller (Detroit Lions), Baer is a proven ironman, entering his fourth year as a starting offensive tackle for Pitt. His last name is appropriate, as the 6-foot-7, 325-pound Baer mauls opponents at the line of scrimmage.

PFF:

27. New England Patriots: OT Jordan Seaton, LSU
Seaton is the third SEC offensive tackle projected to go in the first round. He missed the end of last season at Colorado due to injury, but when healthy, he allowed just seven pressures on 328 pass-blocking snaps. One year earlier, Seaton was tasked with protecting Shedeur Sanders’ blind side, where penalties became an issue (15). He appears to have cleaned up that problem and brings ideal size for the NFL.

If Will Campbell does not stick at LT long term, then Caleb Lomu probably moves to LT, with Campbell moving to either RT or LG. In the LG case, AVT moves to RG, and there is another need at sttarting RT, unless Dametrious Crownover can fill that role. See MG's "5 OT" thread on the main forum.

Jordan Seaton will possibly go far higher than we pick. I haven't studied Baer yet.

I'm going to wait and see how 2026 plays out. But even I don't want OT in the first round next year, no matter how much I may like the prospects.

Saw a pick somewhere that had the Pats @ #27 pick Trey'Dez Green TE, LSU...
Unfortunately I forget where I saw it..

No chance Jordan Seaton lasts into the 20's. But then again, my signature, which I put up after all the draft declarations were announced, says the 2027 draft is GOLD. It's just unimaginable to me a beast like him (and he needs to get stronger and will get better) goes that low.

I also like Yhonzae Pierre, Alabama, for the Pats. Not sure we go Edge back to back high picks after signing D. Jones but I'm not against it right now. Jacas has to prove first.
Dane Brugler's 2027 mock

Gives us Damon Wilson II who was at Missouri last year, but will be at Miami this. A year too late for a Miami EDGE sadly.

Todd McShay's 2027 mock. Like Brugler, he has Ty Benefield in it and a name I haven't hear before, CB Ja'Bril Rawls of Florida State.

This 2027 draft has dearth of LB's, a position of need for us, unless we sign a quality FA. But you could throw a dart and get a good player next year.

It's not up to the quality of last year yet, but the LB class isn't as bad as you make out.

Potential starters

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Notre Dame
Sammy Brown, Clemson
Ben Roberts, Texas Tech

Others Of note

Whit Weeks, LSU
Cade Uluave, BYU
Isaiah Glasker, BYU
Austin Romaine, Texas Tech
Christian Alliegro, Ohio State
Rasheem Byles, Texas
Sammy Omosigho, Cal
Drayk Bowen, Notre Dame
Tony Rojas, Penn

Additionally, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, Missouri at a minimum lost one or more linebackers in the draft so we'll need to wait and see who they replace them with.

It isn't the strongest class...yet...but we'll have to see whether it gets stronger. There is scope for it to do so.

I only meant that it’s likely the least deepest position, other than RB, in the draft, and we are likely in need of a top pick at that position next year. There’s still quality there but not like the other positions like QB, WR, Edge, OL, DB’s.
