Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Per Schefter the Eagles have traded for Jonathan Greenard for a 3rd this year and 3rd next year, and paid him a new $100M contract. They are going to need some picks back and to cut some salary…

OK, I'll Take ABJ for a third in 27, and a 3rd in 28 and replace those picks for them. Greenard and AJB are about the same place in their respective careers. Both have been very productive. Both are coming off years where they weren't as productive as usual. Both come with big salaries. Why should we pay more than they paid the Vikings

Honestly I think that’s about what they’ll get.

Sounds good to me. Give them two thirds, one in 2027 and another in 2028, and take on AJB’s contract. They gave us a nice benchmark.

Yup!

They may have wanted to use the Giants trade of Lawrence to the Bengals as a bench mark, but the Eagles themselves just provided us with a more realistic benchmark.

With Eagles having all those WRs, I don't think Boutte would be included in the pick if we get Brown. I mean how many more receivers do you need?

Yet consensus is that the deal was already done days ago, so not sure that the 'new benchmark' factors into things at all.

If I want to be optimistic it could be a sign that Roseman has been in the mood to shed vets with high salaries cheaply, but that's about it.

I would rather give up a 2028 first than a 2027 second rounder. The 2027 draft is predicted to be historically good.

Doesn’t make sense value wise. Also, that ‘28 first rounder will likely be more valuable than Brown in 2028.

Getting AJ Brown for a 1st in the bottom third of the first is good value. Maybe in 2 years that player is better. Have to look at it through the complete scope though. If these two years are great years, that’s great value.

The Commanders went to the NFC championship game in 2024, and they just picked in the top 10 in this draft.

Brown is a luxury and the trade is fraught with danger. Juice is not worth the squeeze.

Aging player with bad knees is not what we need.

Don’t get me wrong, I may be the biggest proponent of Brown in this forum, I’d just prefer to keep our first rounders; especially with Maye & Gonzo commanding big dollars. Plus, he’s already 29. His “market value” based on recent WR trades around his age/production range should only command a 2nd-4th (or some combination of multiple round picks except first rounders.) Ex: a 2nd & a 4th…or 3rd/5th etc..

Yep. The only way I'm ever trading a future 1st round pick, for any veteran, is if he's still 25 or younger and I extend him as part of the deal.
