Felt a little pressed in this draft. Not the Pats fault, it just seemed to fall that way. Picking from 31 is not as easy obviously as opposed to picking 15 but I thought they responded well. The run on tackle, DE and TE conveniently right before each of the Pats first 3 picks was unfortunate as in we had to use both 4ths to move up.

Time to own it.

I go B.

Some odd picks in 5 and 6, hated the QB pick. Loved first three picks, Crownover, and Miller.
B for me I was an advocate for edge in the first round but I truly believe Jascas was the best pick up of them all. Lomu our first rounder really like what he will bring at tackle. Also I did like the raridon TE & CB prunty pick ups.

I gave it a B. When your picks are this late in each round, you have to temper your expectations. The result was a B (Even as I type that I think A- sounds better) in large part because of where we drafted. B at that draft position is about as good as it can get. On the other hand, we did fill (hopefully) several positions of weakness, thinness, need; and it did take a little modestly fancy footwork to get that done. The result is a B, but I think there is at least a case to be made that the management of the draft might deserve - what? - a soft A, maybe. I have come around on Eliot. His manner is annoying - one of those guys who always looks like he smells something awful - but he does seem to know what he's doing. Maybe Bill's bullying manner and idiosyncratic approach in the draft really was more to blame for Eliot's crap record prior to Vrabel's arrival than I thought. I thought the Blame Bill thing was just an excuse for Eliot's failures: maybe not. (I know this will annoy Bill's many acolytes, but...it is what it is.)

F. Patriots do not care about putting on a show and fielding an exciting product.
They have zero creativity and will never take risks and shoot for the homerun.
All 3 other teams in the division had better and more interesting drafts than pats.
Bottom third of the league team next year and boring while doing it.
I believe that not upgrading WR will come back to bite the Pats in the arse.

That guy is the worst. Talk about a prunty karon!
I'm a lifelong wordmonger, but "prunty" threw me for a loop. I looked it up:

The name Prunty is of Irish origin, derived from the Gaelic "Ó Prontaigh," meaning "descendant of Pronta," which is thought to mean "ready" or "prompt." It can also be interpreted as "bestower of generosity" from the Gaelic elements "proinn" (banquet) and "teach" (house or hall).

The surname Prunty has Irish origins and is derived from the Gaelic "Ó Prontaigh."

Etymology

  • Ó Prontaigh: This translates to "descendant of Pronta."
    • proinn: meaning "banquet"
    • teach: meaning "house" or "hall"

Historical Context

The Prunty surname is linked to a lineage that emphasizes traits of generosity and hospitality, reflecting cultural values in Irish society.

This name is also notable for its variations, which include forms like O'Prunty and Pruntoch, indicating its historical evolution and regional adaptations.

So, I'm still in that loop. Maybe it's my English heritage.

You have a deep need for excitement, don't you?

What - specifically - would you have had them do differently by way of "shooting for the homerun." (Sorry to mix sports, but don;t most home run hitters strike out a lot?)

Have to wonder if this draft adds fire to the AJ Brown coming to the Pats in June?
Aside from Raridon there was no emphasis to add to the receiving corps.
If that was the plan, can stretch my grade to an A as what the Pats did was part of their draft strategy.

B. If they get five significant contributors, including tackle, that’s a pretty good draft.

IMO if the Pats overpay for Brown it will undo much of the value added this draft weekend.

If I had any say he would come cheap or not at all.

We don’t need him.

You're testing the limits of something alright...

Reading about the player, I think it's a between 7.5-8/10 (Guess that's a B).

First 3 picks were really good, liked the aggressiveness and we made deals to leapfrog the competition, and had great value for the first 2, and Raridon, after reading about him made me excited.

Prunty is a good pick, good CBs are never enough, if he pans out. His profiles makes him look like a bit of a tweener, not very strong or heavy, but decent length. Maybe one year in the gym makes him a steal.

the tackle pick in the 5th round, to me at least, gives a hint that they don't trust Campbell at LT. Sure, he will have incumbent priority, and might as well prove he deserves the spot. Crownever looks like a project, between him and Marcus Bryant, if one of them pans out, we might have Tackles figured out for some years, between them, Lomu and Campbell. Obviously, maybe interior line would make more sense, short term wise.

Obiazor seems like a bad pick. I really don't like picking for Special Teams, and he's the opposite to Raridon as in the more I read, the less enthusiastic I am. Small for a Linebacker and seeing some his videos, he doesn't react to things quickly enough.

Morton is a weird pick. I'd rather have a veteran behind Maye (and DeVitto) than him, and he doesn't seem to have that much potential.

Miller seems to be more of the same for the Running back room. Would prefer a project big bruising back to maybe take over short yard situations from Stevenson.

Hutchins doesn't do anything for me. Of hall the highlights I've seen, his was really ****ty. Speed to try going around his man, but seems to simply not have strength to push anyone at the NFL level.

Is it possible that pats preferred Hutchins as their last pick over high upside UDFAs like

Jeff Caldwell
Anthony Lucas
J Sturdivant
Isaiah World
Deontae Lawson
Dontay Corleone

Instead they take the sloth from BC.
They could have had any of those guys

AND

Uar Bernard final draft pick.

No thirst for upside, play it safe and boring

How much were you drinking while posting this?

I don’t like assigning grades to fresh drafts either. Not my thing. But I think, like most, the Pats did well with their first three picks. The rest is a crapshoot from a bad draft class. It seems they got what they needed and Brown was obviously the big offseason move. Onward and upward.

I also agree they did better than the Bills and Dolphins. I’ll give the Jets credit for a good draft, but we all know what happens when they take the field.
