OT: Zay Flowers: Ravens won't practice as hard

you know, if it were the 1980's again and players wore pads for every rep, two a days reigned, and trainers taped every nick, cut or bruise, slapped your helmet and said "good to go" you might have a valid point...

Ah, I forgot, you're an NFL player of both the 80s and modern era who can speak with authority on this matter making statements like this. I always forget we have a few of those 45-year career players on these forums.

I think there is something to be said for at least having more practice time. Being more coordinated, knowing your assignments better probably puts you in better positions to avoid injury.

"How he prepared for games, he can get anybody prepared," Flowers said. "He's good at getting you ready to go play. Not just speeches, just the way we practiced. How he gets you prepared to go play and hit and do your job."

Quote from the ESPN article.

"...JUST THE WAY WE PRACTICED.... PREPARED TO GO PLAY AND HIT..." Hm. He got you ready to play and...that was a bad thing?

I would think more games and the short weeks has a lot to do with them beating beat down thank this really….looks like we will find out.

Everything changes, given enough time. It will depend on how Minter runs his team.
Ok team.. we won't practice so hard anymore...

I've heard this before from giant's players under Coughlin.. really makes you wonder what flowers idea of practicing to hard meant? They didn't even make the playoffs last season so maybe practicing hard should be something he needs to do more of!

tackling has absolutely sucked across the league since the new rules went into effect
And soft tissue injuries. These dudes don't want to practice at all. I get when your a vet and you wanna skip voluntary it's but you teams aren't preparing their players for the season.

2 presseason games now where the starters barely play. Offenses getting their **** pushed in for 3 weeks in the regular season cause they arent ready for the season.

They want to minimize contact so players don't get cte? Of course that's a good idea. Don't let your lineman slam heads all practice to avoid micro hits that can lead to brain damage. But not doing enough padded practices is stupid.

And...It's likely going to 18 games soon.. remember the two-a-days? Guy's grinded thier asses off.. Willie Mac was talking about how Guy's would pass out during the first practice, and get told if they don't show up for the evening practice they would get cut! What a stark difference between then and now. Flowers is a millennial and this is what the current modern day athlete expects.. I can see if a Guy's dealing with something and he's a key player you take it easy on him in practice.

Glad you can appreciate it.

I just find it rich when anyone on a forum tries to judge the toughness of NFL players based off a quote.

And then just to a more evidence-based point: there is no conclusive evidence that less padded practice has led to more injuries, but there is an overwhelming concern with how players are conditioned early in their training (from grade school and up) of over-focusing on one sport and wearing out the muscles doing so.

So, while the point of: catastrophic injuries were more common in the 80s is true, players are now having more injuries overall, due to many of the reasons you've balked at. More games, less off-season (especially for teams like the Ravens, who consistently are in the running). In a game where a mere 24 hours is a world of difference (many players talk about how their recovery in the week really only feels good by that next Sunday), let alone a Sunday-Thursday week, etc., I DO think there is merit in organizations looking at how to get the most out of practices while minimizing the toll on their players body, especially late into the season.

I respect Harbaugh, I don't think it's just him, I think this is something the NFL is going to have to adapt to.

Sorry if that's too many words, I suck at making it short. I do think, to be fair, people gave less of a **** about their bodies back then, and maybes that's toughness to some. However the freak athletes are a dime a dozen nowadays and you're getting mauled over and over, at much higher reps, with much less recovery time, and the "scienc-y" advancement stuff isn't as much of a wash as your other post suggests.

Goddamn man, I ramble.

So basically - a bunch of word salad. Hope that made you feel smart. Made my eyes glaze over after the 17th paragraph.

The point is simple - The CBA limits what teams can and cannot do in practice already. It limits pads. It limits contact. It limits the number of practices. It limits participation between voluntary and involuntary practices.

Zay Flowers was *****ing about how hard the Ravens practices were, and guess what, they are no harder than anyone elses because of those limitations. Based on what Flowers said, Minter won't be the taskmaster that Harbaugh was.

Because of that - I *think* the quality of the Ravens teams moving forward will diminish as a result. That's it.

Take 10 seconds to read and this could be a real convo OR just conviently say **** like "too many words lol" to disregard anything else.

Also, you're literally basing their approach off of someone quoting someone else LOL, then assuming you can see a decline in quality.

Lighten up, tough guy.

i wasn't the one who started with the attitude, bub...

so a player quoting the new coach is not, what? not good enough for you? pointing out the CBA limits what a team can and can't do during camp/practice is what? conjecture? interesting response, to say the least...

still waiting on you to tell me where i was wrong... that seven paragraph rant of yours was a doozy... it was just word salad that didnt say much of anything
