NFL News Dolphins Trading Jaylen Waddle to Broncos

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
Solid move, im probably not as high on waddle and moore as most so i dont see them as ‘over the top’ type moves but will definitely make Denver and buffalo stronger. If we have a solid draft at our key areas of need i still see us neck and neck with both teams as the afc elite. Solid draft plus AJ Brown and i see us as afc favorites.
Buffalo and Denver are better than us right now: but the Homers will say otherwise.

Really?? can't get something for nothing Nix have Waddle and Sutton: Drake Maye have.
Drake will have an improved group than the WR room that had the 4th best passing attack in the league in 2025. An improved OL and the people to give him a better running attack. And it's only 3/17

I think Brown is better than Waddle, but Waddle is a year and half younger and doesn't have the long term medical concerns that Brown has. That said, I think I would rather have Brown in the short term. Brown is a proven legitimate #1 elite WR. Waddle has been a #2 WR with #1 potential. Not sure how Waddle will do when drawing #1 coverage consistently.

The still have Sutton.

How so?
Hendrickson was a 3rd rd pick, Crosby was A 4th.
AJ was 51st overall.
Obv you can find example of guys that got drafted early that didn't work out.
That's why you pay your scouting dept millions of dollars a year.
I'm sure there were plenty of folks that said you couldn't get a premier WR at 51 in Brown's draft year.
I'm sure no one thought Hendrickson would have 35 sacks in a 2 year span.
Premier OL and DE do not always come from the top of the draft.
You're using the outliers to prove the rule.

Exactly.
Did we struggle to pass the ball last year, no.
Did we struggle to run the ball in the first half of the season, and in keys moments, 100% yes.
Did we struggle protecting Maye, 100% yes.
We have hit on some key weaknesses and still have FA/Trades and the draft to go.
We have a lot of knee-jerk going on here, but I guess it's to be expected, it's the same every year.

I think this helps contextualize the way NE is operating this offseason thus far. Remember, it's not necessarily about being the best in the conference as much as it is just being better than the 3 teams in your division.

At this point, the Jets and Dolphins look like they will be dumpster fires, and Buffalo will make an effort but still has holes. Joe Brady is in his first year as an HC, is very young, and it remains to be seen if he can do the job. Even if he can, he will have growing pains. And their defense still really sucks.

So overall, the Pats may not look like AFC champs on paper but they seem to look like AFC East champs on paper to me, WR room concerns be damned. Improvements to the OL, better TE blocking, and a quality fullback will let them pound the football much better than in 2025. Probably a lower win total, but that doesn't mean it's not still a division title and a home playoff game.
Huh?
Why would you not want to be the best team in the conference?

Do you serious think the Patriots set out to be the 7th best team in the AFC as long as Buffalo the jete and fish tank are worse?
That is crazy.

You think the defending AFC Champions have a goal of getting a home playoff game and getting bounced?

Buffalo and Denver are better than us right now: but the Homers say otherwise.

No you fool, the homers realize Free Agency started on March 11 and today is March 17. The offseason is not built in just six days. There is a draft, trades, cuts, more free agents, and maintaining flexibility. Diggs was not signed until late March. The first game of the season is on September 10, 2026, not tomorrow. The idiot chicken littles are the ones complaining the Bills and Broncos are better than us right now. You do this dumb WR panic every freaking year and its so stupid. Let Vrabel build his team. It takes more than 6 days. He did pretty good getting to the SB last year without your help.

You're using the outliers to prove the rule.
Outliers otherwise known as reasons your statement is wrong don’t prove a rule. They disprove it.

This is Malik Willis next season

The offseason is far from over. I like what we’ve done to improve our run game, should be lethal next year.

We have better draft capital at the moment than buffalo and denver due to the trades. Yes, we’ll need to capitalize on it to keep pace. Im thinking if we can add immediate help at edge/lb and shore up depth at other key areas that need it we’ll be at worst right there with those 2. AJ Brown or not. With those upgrades and aj, i have us clearly ahead .

Damnnnn that's a really good add for Denver. Waddle is a stud. He's gonna EAT in Denver
Is he?

Only one 1000 yard season in the last 3 years, no?

Hes good, but has never been a dominant player over multiple years...

The still have Sutton.

I don't think Sutton is a true #1 either. His catch rate sucks. He caught 59.6% of the passes thrown to him last year. That doesn't even make the top 100 in catch percentage in the NFL. And last year wasn't an anomaly. He had a 60% catch rate in 2024.

I know a lot of that has to do with Bo Nix who is wildly inconsistent in his passing. But you cannot be a legitimate #1 receiver and not even catch 60% of the passes thrown to you. #1 WRs don't always have the highest catch percentage because they get a lot more low percentage throws their way, but the Broncos are all about short passing and letting the receiver make plays after the catch and under 60% is still really low.

Waddle is much more valuable than Brown.
I am not a huge fan of Brown but I do not agree with this at all. I feel like AJ can do everything, out wide in the slot face the #1 CB. I do not think the Waddle has that same ability, not saying Waddle is bad just saying he is not AJ Brown caliber.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Willis should have chosen the Jets, they are at least trying to get better. Miami was clearly tanking for a QB before they signed him.

Miami is taking a flyer. If Willis shows he's a good QB they can draft a non-QB high in 2027. If not, no harm done and they take a QB. I do question how they will judge him with the lack of talent around him.
I do think Miami is trying to get better, but step 1 is getting rid of bad overpriced players and get the contracts off the book. The are about to have over 175M in dead cap. Unfortunately for them it is going to be a long process.
