Major Improvements To The Run Game

Did your compare Brady time vs Maye time. I rewatched the Superbowl against Seattle. There were points where he ducked and try to run. No focus downfield? Happened thru out the playoff run. Am I wrong in this eval?
There were a number of problems, including Maye being indecisive and out of sorts all game. They also struggled converting a number of third and short situations and punted on fourth and 1 while it was still a game because Vrabel did not have confidence in their ability to pick up a first down. A healthy Maye and avoiding so many three and outs would have made it a different game.

I think your desire for a big inline TE is blinding you to the fact that we just signed a "big inline blocking TE" 6'4 - 255 and ran a 4.8 40 and is a reportedly a HELL of a good blocker. He also has over 30 receptions over his 3 year career. He has the chance to be our primary #2, play 50% of the offensive snaps and catch 20 or so balls and block the **** out of LB's and DE's. And that's BEFORE you draft anyone or see what Dippre has to offer.

Take it easy, man. We MIGHT just have what you desire to badly already on the roster. No guarantees, but we can hope
Eli Stowers project if he's there. Small thou

A great example of a "move" TE, Great athlete. Could be a future replacement for Henry though he probably needs to put on ten pounds of muscle by his 2nd year.

So edge is more important to you, I can agree with that since we lost chaisson in FA. But but we really really need a great blocking TE to help Cambell and be a big Target for Maye. TE play is historic in New England especially in the RED ZONE! If I had Vrabels ear for a minute I'd tell him to consider converting a linebacker like himself to play TE.... and teach teach teach!
We just signed a guy who aspires to be the best blocking TE in the league, and very well might accomplish that. He’s also a former basketball player who can catch the ball. Hill is likely to be exactly the player you just described.

Yes you are.

I think we need to pump the breaks on a guy who played 50% of the snaps and caught 15 passes based upon his “aspirations”.
He is a second TE who struggles as a receiver.

We’ll need to see. But even if he has struggled in the past as a receiver that’s something that can be improved, and he has certainly shown the willingness and ability to work hard, obsessively even, to improve.

We need to balance pumping the brakes with locking the brakes and writing him off before he even sees the field here. Some on this board have a predilection for doing the latter.

Yeah, we just need to open some clean holes and get Henderson in space to take it to the house.

The kid should have at least 10 +50 yard rushing TDs next year!!!

Or we could just evaluate who the guy is.
In 3 years he’s played 598 passing downs, probably about the equivalent of 20 games and has 33 catches. That is not good production. He played in a TE friendly offense.
He has never had a catch more than 9 yards being the LOS.
He averages just 8.7 yd/catch.
I don’t think “he used to play basketball” is relevant.

I’m not sure “he worked hard to improve” is really relevant either because that can’t be quantified or compared to other players and there isn’t visible proof he has improved.
I’m not sure why you think receiving ability deserves special mention as something “that can be improved”

There are some reports that he has done well as a blocker, but he is small for a TE.

I think at best we can use him as a blocker in 2 TE sets, maybe check down to him once in a while. Maybe a Michael Hooman type of guy.

No one has 10 50+ TDs in a season.

Wh

Why? Make your observations...
The issue in the SB was the OL and the OCs fear of the OL that caused him to play small ball.

Maye does not “lose focus downfield and duck and run”. He always moves with throwing in mind until it’s not an option or a huge land opens up.

Hasn't struggled THAT much. He's caught 69 percent of his targets for his three seasons. Travis Kelce has caught 71 percent.

Seriously?

You are comparing:
Hill 33 catches in 3 years on 598 routes with zero targets more than 9 yards downfield to
Kelce 76 catches on 577 routes in one year with over 24% of the targets being 10+ yards downfield and over 78% catch rate in the ones under 10

Yeah almost the same player.

I did not say the same player, or even a similar player. What I was saying was that you were being a little over-zealous and premature in saying he 'struggled' as a receiver.

Learn about context.

Catching only 33 passes in 598 route with zero targets beyond 9 yards is by definition struggling in the passing game.

If he started for us, played every down and caught 25 passes, with zero targets deeper than 9 yards would you call the doing well in the passing game?
Thats is his entire career to date broken into every down of a full season.

I like the way 'playing on 598 passing downs' has magically moved to '598 routes'.

Great. You hate the player and think Vrabel is a moron. Run with that.

Why are you putting words in my mouth?
When did I say I hate the player?
When did I say Vrabel is a moron?

I said the guy struggles in the passing game and you pulled out a minor stat said it was close and said he must not struggle because his catch percent is close to a guy who produced 5 times as much and plays the position completely differently.

What’s next hold your breath and stamp your feet?
