Player Signing Safety Kevin Byard signs 1 year deal

While Clowney is still showing he has it, I think it was telling that Vrabel didn't bring him in LAST year when Clowney was available. Clowney wasn't signed by the Cowboys until after Week 2 last year.
That’s a very good point.
I know they spent 3 years together in Houston, and Clowney speaks glowingly of Vrabs, but maybe it’s not a 2 way street.

Not just Houston. Clowney played for Vrabel in Tennessee in 2020, but moved on after an injury shortened year. While Clowney didn't post a sack in 8 games, he DID have 2 QB hits and 22 Hurries on 266 pass rushing snaps.

It could also be that Clowney wants to be in Texas since his home is just outside of Houston.

The Door is wide open for a Crosby trade.. now that TB12 has some egg on his face with the trade falling through with Baltimore I wonder if the majority owner of the LVR will make an executive decision or keep letting Brady play madden?..
I would consult the DAL doctor (#1 expert in the NFL on this surgery).

If Crosby is Ok medically, DAL is very likely to pay more than we will.

How do we know Brady is making these decisions?

BTW, “Spytek” is about the worst name you could have as a GM.

Good points.. he doesn't have final say but he has heavy say and influence.. Pete Carroll was his "decision " or advisor as it's stated he is.. Spytec was his guy as well..

Byard was a Vrabel draftee back in the day, started off showing flashes, worked his way into one of the best safeties in the game.

I'm starting to think Vrabel knows how to scout safeties...I dunno...
Woodson too. But I’m thinking it’s not just safeties. FAs like Tonga and Chaisson for example. I’m very confident Hill will be another addition to that FA list too.

One of our safeties had a similar shot at the Super Bowl to bring Darnold down and just whiffed. Don’t remember if Hawkins or not.

I liked Hawkins but.. this really excites me with the opportunity to have
Byard all pro
Woodson future all pro
Gonzo all pro and Best CB in the league
Jones pro bowl caliber
Davis pro bowl caliber

Man.. that's a dam good secondary...
I’m greedy. I’d like to upgrade Davis the way we just upgraded Hawkins. Maybe a rookie, or one of our developmental players is ready to step up. Dial?

It's going to have to be the draft for sure.. we are going to have to find that Boundry guy.. unless Dial recovers ans continues to develop as he was last camp.
I hope Dial bounces back. I had great hopes for him before he got injured.

I'm not sure Dial is going to be that guy. He missed all of 2025 and will be 26 in 2026..he is not going to develop much at this point. His stats don't exactly jump out at you...

How many snaps? D, or ST? IIRC he wasn’t playing a lot of D in 2024, but he might have been and just not gotten his name called a lot. For a CB that’s not a bad thing.

Why do you keep mentioning the Flag Football farce know as the "Pro Bowl". It hasn't been a meaningful designation in over 15 years.
The game isn’t meaningful. The recognition of being selected is.

IMO it's a bad thing if your name is not being called because someone else's is. He's had a total of 60 career NFL snaps on defense and will be 26 in 2026. I think that's a bad thing.

Yeah and no Van Noy either. We already have that DE vet in Dre'Mont Jones at 29 yo. I prefer Better, Younger, Cheaper from the draft.

I believe Davis will be much better this season.. year 2 in the system.. and having a real FS in the secondary will allow for QBs to try and attack his side rather than Gonzo or Byard.. Davis will have plenty of opportunities to pick off passes. However I still believe we should add another veteran. Lattimore...

Depends on price.
Clowney is still productive.
8.5 sacks in 13 games on limited snaps last year.
Would be a great rotational piece for $5-6M on a one year deal.
