Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
I think Roseman eventually relents - but it might be a post-draft, post-June 1 trade, so the compensation would be for 2027 (and/or 28), and definitely would not involve a first rounder.
Yeah... they have essentially less than 2 months to make a move on AJ becuase of the June 1 date.. so if this ends up being a post draft deal then I believe we need to at least sign another guy... Juan Jennings is out there... doubs as well..

Love how the blogger just regurgitated what someone from Roseman's office told him.

This passes for 'reporting' these days.

"They must understand the Eagles are taking a huge loss". Sure, maybe shoulda thought about that before your hardo, ****head head coach alienated his entire team.

I don't think a post-June 1st trade precludes the Patriots from signing another WR.

My question to you is, why do you think they 'need' to, other than to assuage the Cult?

I definitely see your point.. But having stability at the most Important position in football makes any GMs job much easier.. we saw how it looked without QB stability.. as have many other organizations.

Having good QB play is a minimum in the NFL if you want to win. But you still have 21 other positions to fill. Peyton, as good as he was, only won 2 SBs. Rodgers only has 1 SB. It's not just the QB.

I don’t understand the call for another WR (outside of 1 to replace Diggs) unless he can take over the slot.

Who would we release? Or would we just carry another WR?

Because you cut Diggs as he wouldn't take a pay cut.. we don't need to go hard taking up all the cap space for one singular player... additionally adding a doubs,or Jennings with the current group creates great competition and will bring out the best out of everyone... not an Assuage at all.. I feel realistically the team should at least target another guy on top of trading for AJ.. Vrabel has said emphatically and Wolf about competition.. Ideally you'd like Williams to make that leap and at that point you're eating off both ends of the bread stick..

We won because of the 2009-2012 draft class . After that it was pretty bad with 2018-2022 probably the worst period .

Anyways bill is gone, but the stench of 2022 class and 2024 class ( sans Maye) is the reason we have to be extremely creative to plug holes and field a competitive team. We were efficient last year coupled with some luck on health and scheduling front . Let's see how this year goes.

Draft is not the only way a team procure players.

Agreed.. but go and look at the current Jets, Miami over the years Buffalo pre Josh Allen and plenty other examples in the NFL.. if you don't have stability at QB being a great GM won't matter.. having the QB position set it allows any GM to dedicate to the rest of the roster.. as we witness and the combination brung us lasting success.

We have:
Mack Hollins
Boutte
Pop
Kyle Williams and
Efton chism

This is one of the worst wr groups at the start of FA for the pats I've ever seen.

We like these guys cause they play for the pats but the talent level is bottom 3 in the league.
Plus the TE group is hunter henry...and no one else. Mo Alie Cox is out there as a blocker I guess.

Its like 2005 when Brady had Reche Caldwell out there with Troy brown playing both ways.

Under contract now:

Boutte rookie deal
Hollins 1 year left
Pop rookie deal
Williams rookie deal
Chism rookie deal

Bring in a Doubs or a Jennings... regardless of if/when we get AJ...

competition, competition, competition Vrabel has said this and Wolf as well. This is time you strike...

You're getting your years confused. 2004 is when Troy Brown played CB. 2006 is when Caldwell was with the Pats. 2005 the Pats had Branch, Givens, Brown, Tim Dwight, Bethel Johnson and Andre Davis at WR.

Claiming that the 2026 group is the worst group at the start of FA says you're ignoring 2020 and 2021.

And this group is much better than 2006, 2020 and 2021.

Does 2006 with Doug Gabriel, Caldwell and Gaffney get any honorable mention?

We've had much worse in prior years.

Caldwell was 2006

Agree. Draft is one if the ways . However If you keep whiffing you become bottom of the barrell teams . No team has survived repeated bad drafting and we are no exception either. We had couple of cheat codes in Brady, edelman ,gronk and some defensive playmakers . So we were always able to be competitive . If we had anyone a rung below that , all the 3 titles in second dynasty run would be kaput. Despite the poor drafting we won and that's because we had some crazy success in 2008-2012 period. After that as the cupboard began to dry we saw what happened in 2019-2024. Brady couldn't do it alone .

Belichick was a great coach but the repetitive bad drafts in his late 60s definitely impacted us.

I get what you are saying. I’m not disputing that someone is needed to replace Diggs and his production or that his replacement has a higher chance of being a free agent rather than a rookie, given where we are drafting.

What I am saying is that’s one guy, not two. If the Pats have already made what they feel is their best offer for Brown, get someone else and move on.

But I don’t understand getting a replacement for Diggs and then continuing to pursue Brown. There are only so many spots for WR and the team has other needs.

But I suppose I’m fine with whatever. I’m oddly confident I’m watching the Patriots patiently getting the pieces they need. Haven’t felt that way in a few yeara
