No matter how many times poster attempt to be misleading, Diggs contract is the flattest contract in years, with almost the same average money required each year a bit more than $21M.
==========
That being said, Vrabel may prefer Brown and may be able to secure him.
False

Diggs has the 2nd highest cap hit in 2026. The meat of his contract happens now.
Please tell us the new money received by Diggs in the 3 years of his contract.
Im far more interested in his cap hit.

But you can keep on confusing the two.

Two things are at play here. You are going to have to pay Maye soon. So if you are going to make luxury splurges, now is the time to do it. The issue is more about whether that splurge should be on the line or a WR.

I would put it on the line. I would sign both Lindebaum and a highly rated guard, then draft a right tackle, Miller, Lomu, or Iheanachor.

Curious where everyone is at here.

This answer may have some nuance depending on the receiver.

The main guys I’m thinking about would be Brian Thomas, AJ Brown, DJ Moore. Maybe even DK Metcalf if you’re feeling crazy.

I think I may be willing to give up a 1 and another conditional mid round pick for BTJ. AJ, probably a 2. DJ a 2-3.

Other layers to this:
  • fantasy football drives this WR1 desire for some people. I suspect that may even be where the term came from. Just as online life has become some people's real life, having big play dopamine hits where they can momentarily dominate someone else is the motivation. Sensing that may be what's going on for WR1 advocates is part of what gets the negative reaction here.
  • Draft picks often aren't the biggest cost. The cap and cash outlays are, because they mean spending in other areas has to be cut, and another team now has more for those purposes. An expensive veteran trade that takes on the contract is essentially sending draft picks and cap space to another team.
  • Draft picks mean a lot more to this team now than they did a few years ago, because they've demonstrated competence with them, and because they had their big FA spending year last year and can't keep the momentum going with that going forward. Middle round picks for this staff are worth at least twice what they were for the previous staff. I don't think this can be overstated.

Yup, NE needs cap money to improve and sign players like Gonzo to fair deals. Milton Williams didnt come cheap, but he was worth it.

Jacksonville doesn’t have a 1st, and honestly, there isn’t going to be a receiver (and perhaps not even a tackle) who will be a day 1 starter for us at 31, so I’d send it to Jax for BTJ.

I have been fine with spending for OL all along.

IMO, the cap was totally irrelevant. The team did want Diggs. They could have restructured his contract and saved $10M in 2026 cap space.

No, 20 million in cap room is chump change.

Good call on Diggs.

The Pats would have turned salary into signing bonus making that money guaranteed. There is no savings.

The Pats need cap room top improve the team.

I don’t know why I feel like AJ Brown would be a bust here…he played for Vrabs previously and didn’t like him. Brown has obviously a long history of being a malcontent and when he isn’t getting the ball enough or gets down on things he checks out ….we just don’t need anymore of those guys

Indy has right to match any offers on Pierce and I feel like they will definitely be doing that . I think they are floating him out there just to test the market to calculate the deal that they will offer him…I would be shocked if they let him go…

What are you even talking about? Indy has no such right at all. They used the transition tag of Jones, not Pierce. Pierce is a complete UFA. They already let him go.

How is that? It’s my understanding that because they tagged Jones with the transition tag Pierce is an unrestricted free agent. Is that not the case?

If $18M of salary is converted into a signing bonus, there is a $9M savings in the 2026 cap.

I agree that is not a long-term savings.

My right nut but not my left.
