I owe Will Campbell an apology.

As much we would all have liked more from him, but this is a recently turned 22 year old kid who was cast into the biggest stage on the biggest night.. he knew he did not do as good as job as he shouldn't have and let his team down...
My hope that this will drive him to get better, read this AM that Terron Armstead has volunteered to work with him in the off season...

So did I once upon a time. What level? What positions do you coach?

National Junior College Athletic Association. Offensive and Defensive coordinator. We prep kids trying to get into a 4 year program. I did not coach in 2025. I probably will in the fall.

Wow! That’s great!

A bit above my pay grade.

I took major issue after the game with him refusing to speak to media after having an awful game.

I called him weak and maybe even a ****y…if I didn’t, I thought it.

Most of that came from a personal belief that you need to be accountable and visible when things go poorly just as when things go well. I also didn’t love that Drake sat there and took the lumps, while Will didn’t.

But this quote today (courtesy of BSJ) changed my mind:

“ I'm not gonna give any sound bites today, but the guy in the locker room [after the game] is a young man who has a lot of emotions, who probably doesn't care what he says," Campbell explained. "I'm trying to think of the best way to say this ... . When I get emotional, I tend to have no mind, and that's not the way that I need to approach this thing. And like I said, I know myself, and if I would have spoken after, I would have said something that I didn't need to say. So I slept on it. I watched it. I know what I gotta get better at and move on."

I now realize the kid knows himself and exercised sound judgement that he was better off saying nothing than what he likely would have said in the moment.

That’s actually impressive.

I was unfair to him, and I was wrong.

His performance remains another issue entirely, but his post-game handling of it wasn’t what I thought it was.

You don't owe Stumpy anything.

No way is Vrabel going to throw fuel on the Campbell fire. Vrabes has the teams back at all times.

Campbell got blown up vs the Browns and that was pre injury. The writing was on the wall.
He was "blown up" by Miles Garrett. Just about every OLT in the NFL has suffered the same fate.

I still haven't watched a second of the SB over so I can't say with certainty how much he sucked. Only that he did, alot. I'm looking forward to his improvement next season though.

Oline job in the offseason. Gain weight, get stronger. 330 is the number.

I'm hoping this lights up a fire the same way ed oregons rejection fueled him. To think a 23 kid has maxed out on his strength technique and knowledge is foolish. Orlando paces are generational and when was the last great tackle

That would probably be Joe Thomas. For 11 seasons and 7 games Thomas never missed a snap. He gave up 30 sacks in 11.5 seasons. Just legendary

With the exception of a couple of HOF left tackles Will Campbell's rookie season was similar to most very good to great left tackles.

Put down the beer and pick up some weights.

This is one of the biggest reasons I believe in Campbell. He has exceptional character and he will do everything possible to be a great left tackle. He's going to work his ass off this season.

If you owe him an apology follow the team on FB and comment once or twice. Someone (or an AI) from his page staff asks you, first person, how long you've been a fan of his. I actually responded ("since the draft, Patriots fan from way back, we're rooting for you") and the bot or underling got needy. Anyway, assuming anybody monitors any of it, that's how you reach his "people," if you're okay with his people maybe being bots. One of the cheerleaders likes me too.

He says the right things and seems like a great fella. We'll see how that translates to the gym and the field. I'm rooting for him but am only cautiously optimistic.

Add muscle mass, become a nasty LT, then, meet the Captain who calls him Stumpy to his face and let things develop.
