PATRIOTS NEWS Looks like the Pats are re-signing Chaisson

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
The point was good guards in the middle rounds. Not sure Strange fits either category.
They had a string of bad second round DB’s, an earlier run of bad TE’s. Now a run of poor choices on guards.

If any of Caedan Wallace, Layden Robinson, Sidi Sow, Atonio Mafi, Jake Andrews, Cole Strange, Andrew Stueber - all drafted in just the past four years - had worked out….
I know Cole was a 1st round pick but since he is a guard I included him. Ignoring the 1 guy outside the middle rounds seems like cherry picking to me.

Cole Strange and Jake Andrews both were 2025 starters in the league (and look like they will start in 2026), that is why I mentioned them with question marks. Is starting in the league working out? Most people consider draft picks that end up starting are a success.

When was the last time we successfully picked a guard in the draft? Onwenu? Strange maybe? J Andrews maybe?

I think the TE class is large but not a lot of top guys. LBs too, after the top guys, there is a fall off. We might get a great guard or tackle at the end of R1, or maybe a CB. It all hinges on FA.

I don't really know the TE class, so defer to you.

Was just basing on need.

It seems good guards are available in later rounds.

We just don't get them.

DD,

From what I'm seeing and hearing on patiots content with nick cattles.. that knee with Landry seems problematic.. we needed edge help even with Landry and Chaisson both playing well together earlier in the season.. who do you see us taking should we stick at #31? Edge? OL? TE?
Impossible to say.
Will edge value be there when we pick at 31?
How highly rated does our Front Office have guys like Zion Young, Howell, Parker, Mesihdor.....etc and will they be available?
We can't get stuck picking a position, the value has to be there. If there's a run on pass rushers, which there usually is, OG, LB, DT....might be the best value when we pick.

I know this will sound, and probably is biased BUT…

Draft is sleeping on Oscar Delp.

That kid can play.

While we are talking binkies…I also like Brazzel WR from TN specifically because of Drake.

As UGA points out and I was listening to barth today about delp.. I'm not all that versed in the draft this season since we had an amazing run this season.. I do know the name delp I keep hearing supposed to be a playmaker at TE.. I just believe the more pressing need is edge.. we have to address the edge rush.. can find an OG in the later rounds.. then again who's to even say we won't trade the pick for player X...????

The best guards are predominantly in R1 - the All-Pro guards. Linderbaum for instance. I would love to draft a R1 and R2 guard, and let Onwenu go and use his cap space to sign Linderbaum. Let Wilson, Brown, and the two rookie guards complete and hopefully we have great interior OL play for the first time in a long time. Add Campbell and maybe we have 4 out of the 5 OL positions solved, plus great backups. If we give Maye time he will be surgical, and we need to minimize the hits on his shoulder.

I am not a draft guru, I read what @manxman2601 and @mayoclinic say in the draft forum. Great guys and lots of fun reads over there.

Excellent news. But, Mods, would you humor ("humour") an old pedant, please? There is a world of difference between resigning and re-signing. I am glad it's the latter.
1000 times this!

18-20 million is what you'll be paying Linderbaum... please don't get me wrong One.. what your saying makes sense..but i just don't believe this current patiots organization is going to sink that kind of money into an OL whos undersized and not a premium position like OT..

Ownenu got paid by mayo.. need i say more?... you are right we absolutely do need to get better in the interior.. but Wilson to C, brown at LG, Ownenu at RG and probably Moses or lowe/bryant at RT would probably be a safer bet.. ( lowe played RT in 2023 here) then you draft some guys in the mid rounds and develop them.. just my opinion.. Anyway you slice it.. we need better interior push..

I like the strategy.

Just not sure if we are giving up on Wilson as a center too soon.

No excuse making here.. but we had 2 rookies who won the jobs in camp.. who primarily played well... got injured and struggled in the postseason..

They need to

1. Get fully healthy
2. Get stronger

They have the coaching the rest will be up to them...

Just take the absolute best player available at 31 or if there is a good player who meets our needs at 25 and can start day 1 , trade up and get them

We can wish for other teams OL but it's not always a fit coming from say a run heavy based offense with a LB playing RB in Henry.. to an offense we run that spreads the ball.. we have some pieces just need to add to what we have smartly..

I'm from Maine. Maybe someone can explain what you posted in Downeaster.
I’m a Maine native too.

I remember thinking when I was young, that the Maine accent was just people trying to be funny.

Real fan don't take this the wrong way. You know I love you. I might have proposed an extreme scenario, but if you believe the above you need to see a psychiatrist.

Two years guaranteed is too much risk . We did not do the same to diggs. But yeah Carlton davis was looking like a bust signing and redeemed in post season.

Landry is prolly the only bad one.

I agree, and my example was the extreme, but this fantasy that if we only move Wilson from LG to Center he will blossom and be good because he played Center at Georgia is not backed by any solid facts. Some say he will be better at Center like in college, but better than what? Better than the #71 out of #78 guards? Who cares?

... of course I don't take it wrong.. you know your my guy one!! There's only ONE-IF-BY-SEA....

You know we're talking about Carlton Davis, right?

#1 starting CB on at least half the teams in the league Carlton Davis? Never mind being stuffed into the #2 spot.
He was always a handsy guy, but he played pretty damned well.

No idea what you expect from a starting corner if you think he was looking like anything in the neighborhood of 'bust'.

Wilson was much better before the concussion than after. I thought he was pretty good up to then for a rookie playing out of position.

Signing a center, (let alone a huge $$$ signing) basically boxes Wilson out and into a swing backup position when really I thought he showed more considering what was asked of him. Remember it wasn't only Campbell who had a rookie playing beside him.

If the coaching staff thinks Wilson is only an NFL backup this early that's fine. But maybe they should try to rewrite Bradbury or bring in another veteran center in case Wilson fails, and rebuild both guard positions instead.

He was pretty bad the first 8-10 games for whatever we paid him. It was not looking as value signing. I used to see him have too many penalties and missed assignments and lots of big yardage passes completed. I think he came on after 10th or 12th week.
