PATRIOTS NEWS Looks like the Pats are re-signing Chaisson

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Holy **** dude, he was the best pass rusher in the entire playoffs.
I would definitely not say that.

Our DTs got a lot more pressure, even against Seattle. Speaking of Seattle, Chiasson applied little pressure, and hello Kenneth Walker running wide as our end got washed out.

We need a huge upgrade at his spot.

3 sacks (actually 3.5 he got cheesed out of one), 9 QB hits, 14 pressures (at least) and a FF is the best performance by any edge rusher in the playoffs.

Sorry if actual production interferes with your narrative.

We need an upgrade at the position, but there's no reason Chaisson shouldn't be on the other side. He earned it.

Agreed.
Not many Ds have 2 incredible edge guys and 2 DTs.
You have to pick your poison.
We have the interior, but do need to upgrade Landry's spot.
Chaisson was not the problem, and should be part of the equation moving forward.

Has this been confirmed anywhere?

Maybe I'm missing it, but when I go to Chaisson's Instagram, this is not up.

No mention anywhere else.
It's in his Story (click on Avatar)...latest one.

I wonder how Vrabs and Wolf view our need at edge.
If K re-signs, do they think a healthy Landry, along with development of Ponder and potential Swinson is good enough?
I hope not. Whether via the draft or FA, we need more juice.
I think most of us expect an edge in the first 2 rds of the draft assuming we don't sign a stud in FA or make a trade.
But.....perhaps we won't see an edge early in the draft as we have lots of needs and value has to be there. We might end up taken a player later in the draft who is a pass rush specialist, that will need development to contribute on 1st and 2nd down.
I don't expect Landry to BE healthy again. Not with the reports that his knee is bone-on-bone.

I was worried about chemistry going to next year but like the look of the moves so far. DC and now KC.

Next stop: Kayshon Boutte.

Get that and the Gonzalez extension done, then we're in incredible shape as FA starts.
I think that it makes sense to guarantee Gonzo's 2027 season through the 5th year option before May 1 and work on the extension for 2028-2031 later in the season when it will be integrated with the $17.5M for 2027. That way, it has no effect on the 2026 cap.
=========
Waiting to extend shouldn't affect whether he is extended or not. If there are issues, then there will be issues. I think that he will stay. Worst case is that we franchise him for 2027 and perhaps 2028.

We destroyed people defensively. It was the entire D. But when we needed it most against Seattle it wasn't there. Never mind that Walker ran wild on us around the edges.

He is NOT an every down DE.

You really think he was the best edge rusher in the playoffs? Really?

You guys definitely pay too much attention to pff.

Excellent news. But, Mods, would you humor ("humour") an old pedant, please? There is a world of difference between resigning and re-signing. I am glad it's the latter.
We took the "u" out of many words. And we are free to use hyphens or not to use them. It's in the small print of the US Constitution.

I am definitely a proponent of this move. I expected them to let him test the market first, though.

Signing him early makes me think he wasn’t necessarily seeking the “highest offer” and simply wanted good money while also being able to win and be part of something. He’s a guy who has already had to bounce around several times, I’m sure he is eager to put down some roots somewhere. No better place than here.

I'm not buying the Crosby talk.
Raiders want two 1sts and a good player in return, eff that!
I think Hendrickson is the more likely of the two, but he goes against the "get younger and cheaper" mantra.
If we don't sign a significant OG in FA, I want one in the first 2 rds, no ****ing around with developmental guys. Of course that assumes one of the top 3 OGs are there, and our braintrust has them graded out to what the popular opinion is.
I think edge might be the one position they’d be willing to sign aging vets just because the need is so great. But beyond that I do think they’ll really be prioritizing players under 30 as much as possible.

This has nothing to do with PFF.
Statistically he was the best. Nobody else did what he did.

I don't expect him to be the best pass rusher on the team next year. But he makes an excellent Robert Mathis, and age + ability + good contract = an excellent signing.

If you're going to be prisoner of the moment about the Super Bowl, when everyone but Williams and Gonzalez played below where they were, and just ignore everything else they did all year, then I really can't help you.

Sometimes more speed, sideline to sideline, is needed at LB. Walker is small and fast so tough for an EDGE but easy for a small fast LB or DB. I don't use PFF and don't think those edge rushes by Walker are on the EDGE. We need faster outside LBs or big Nickel or whatever you call it.

BB was often knocked for not paying players who came in on the cheap and developed into something. He seemed to prefer starting over with a different cheap player. In contrast, this is an example of the develop and retain philosophy in action. Assuming the dollars are reasonable, sighing Chiasson to this deal sends a good message and sets expectations for other players fighting for their spot on the team.

agreed... i think he will not be here next year... minor cap hit to cut him

There’s a decent amount of FA edges and the draft is fairly deep with options. That may have factored in to the early signing. I’m eager to see the deal.

Imagine they pair him up with his former teammate…

Pleasantly surprised at this, if confirmed to be true. (I don't take too much stock in anything posted on IG)
My initial thoughts on the potential for this signing was 10% at best. Figured he def priced himself out of our market. He had a great year and playoff, still wouldn't consider him a top 15 DE, but not too far behind.
The contract numbers are everything in these situations.
