Amazing Stat about the playoff run

Defensive? LOL. Does not matter if it was 300 rushing yards. Holding the offense to 12 points when they were on the field for so long because our offense had 8 straight punts was the definition of a great defense.

95 of those yards were in the first half where they only gave up 9 points. Your definition of great defense seems to be holding the other team to 0 points which is absurd.

If our offense scored some points and created pressure on Seattle's offense to take some risk would have created turnover opportunities. Seattle never had to do anything but be conservative.
Yep, the offense was really bad. But 95 rushing yards and nine points in a half wasn’t good enough in this situation. Disappointing but the game was lost.

There’s not really an argument here by the way, it just is what it is.

Yeah, a league-average offense (through the first three quarters) likely gets us the win.

The glass-is-half-full way of looking at it is that we found out exactly where the leaky spots are in a championship run during year one of the rebuild. There's never a guarantee we get back, but if we do, it'll be because we were shown our weaknesses in dramatic and irrefutable fashion and corrected them.
I think regardless of injuries or details, to win a title you have to do something. The offense was stuck in a rut, Josh would not call running plays, Drake would not take it upon himself to just tuck it and run, and when you just let ineffectiveness continue you ultimately run out of time and you lose.

Seattle continued to run even after getting stuffed, while the Patriots gave Trevion two (2) total carries in the first half. The person exposed the most on Sunday was Josh.

Again...context. Our lousy offensive play probably gave Seattle a couple extra possessions. 9 points in that half was great defense.

The four field goals in the first half was the difference. Stop that and it's a tie game.

Count me in the camp of 'average offense' wins the Super Bowl.

The defense battled and battled despite the offense literally giving them zero rest.

It was only after that turnover when they showed the shot of the defense on the sideline wtih a reaction like 'c'mon man, what more can we do?!?!. I empathized for them.

The defense played better than expected. Our DBs shut down JSN.

If you're going to harp on Walker and his outside runs, I've been saying all year that the team was very poor setting the edge and containing outside runs. It was a weakness all year. The 3 guys charged with doing it ALWAYS get sucked inside (Chiasson, Tavai, and Landry). We relied all year on Davis, Gonzo, Marcus and Woodson making key tackles. I was worried one of them was going to get injured with our reliance on our CBs on the edge.

We need an upgrade from both Landry and Chiasson. Someone like Miami's Mesidor should be priority #1 in the draft, because he has the size against the run and the ability to rush the passer. We need someone in FA as well.

The offense needs a lot of work. Not just an addition of talent, but more importantly better execution, more efficiency and a smarter style of play.

You have to beat playoff caliber defenses. Running up points against bad teams in the regular season is not sustainable in the playoffs.

Maye has to improve trusting what he's seeing and getting rid of the ball. Right now, that's the only hole in his game.

This truly is an amazing stat, but this one sticks out to me….

In four playoff games (against playoff-worthy opponents), the Patriots defense gave up a grand total of 3 offensive touchdowns and scored one of their own (Marcus Jones) but should have been two if the ref didn’t blow the whistle in Denver.

We know our defense was good but that is like ‘next level good’

I suppose this is our counter to the 2001 season in which (in 3 playoff games) we won the Super Bowl by scoring only 3 offensive touchdowns (we had three non-offensive tds in that playoff run)
A Declaration of Greatness without context

Vs LA...................sub-JAG/practice squad OL
Vs Houston........No #1 and #2 pass catching weapons....in the snow
Vs Denver.........sub-JAG #2 QB in a blizzard

As far as the SB went, NE's D was great....but....because the NE offense was sub-putrid, Seattle's Offense never had to push the envelope, take risks, go for it on 4th downs (0 attempts).
Settling for easy FGs (5-5, longest 41 yds) was an effortless and winning decision.
Also, to be "next level good", where were the turnovers vs the 1st "healthy" offense NE played in the playoffs.

Crapping on the defense that has maybe 4 plus-level starters on it, is certainly...one of the choices of all time.

New England’s D was great all season, the only time there was a slip was the end of the regular season when multiple starters missed time with injuries.

They were great in the Super Bowl against the best team in the entire NFL.

Suggesting otherwise is absurd…

Which fact did I misstate?

Agreed, we saw that Milton Williams and Robert Spillane are difference makers who missed time at the end of the regular season

You conveniently left out the Super Bowl, when they gave up 1 TD after being on the field the entire game.

It literally invalidates your entire argument.

And Tonga, Landry, Farmer…

The only time our defense looked bad was the game vs. the Bills where we allowed 5 straight TD drives. Otherwise, the D was rock solid all year (with the exception of allowing a TD on the first drive of games).
