I am starting to believe there is a real possibility they keep Tom Brady out on his first try.
I believe the #1 reason(s) BB and Orchids were snubbed were 1) Gates and 1b) Jealousy.

It would not surprise me in the least Tom is denied on the 1st ballot and that would be worse than BB's snub

That would be catastrophic. BB has had a negative perception of late and he got a lot of support.

TFB is on the rise as far as his national perception goes, so snubbing him this way is an absolute existential crisis for the entire process.

My view on Bob has forever been tainted after the Dynasty documentary.
I wish I were able to memoryhole stuff like this.

Like stealing money from the people of Hartford.
Like running Bill Parcells out of town because he knew better.
Like running Pete Carroll out of town because he set up a revolving door at his office for players to ***** and moan.
Like stepping in with Brady, when he actually had trade value, limiting long term success for short-term gains.
Like throwing Belichick and Brady under the bus for Deflategate and Spygate "for the good of the 32".
Like ruining the quality of football over the last decade, allowing the 2011 CBA to include a limitation to 8 padded practices a year, while adding games to the schedule.
Like Orchids of Asia.
Like hiring Jerod Mayo, letting him be his mole in Belichick's final two years, then hiring him as HC, even though he was woefully incapable of doing the job, because he went on a trip with him that one time.
Like not allowing Belichick to trade Mac Jones when he actually had value.
Like being at the bottom of the players rankings for ownership and facilities, when he owns the facility outright, and has made his money back on his investment 70 times over.
Like putting out "The Dynasty".
Like being in the bottom 5 teams in actual cash spending for 2 decades, despite being either the 2nd or 3rd valued franchise in the league.

I wish I could just memoryhole that stuff, but it's a blindspot I have, not just with Kraft, but for everything, I just can't forget this stuff.

The only owner to have a Super Bowl participant in four straight decades with three different head coaches and he is being snubbed. And Jerry Jones is in the hall for over a decade for a four year dynasty and nothing else.

Agree completely.

Unless they change the process and the people who govern/protect it, Tom not getting on the 1st ballot is a real possibility.

This is the real tell.

If Tom Brady doesn’t get in as a first ballot HOF there will be no possible way to spin it other than what it is: Anti-Patriots jealous bias. And funny enough…if that happened, I could see the entire process being blown up and voters replaced.

What would really piss me off, is if that bias continued on with guys like Gronk who also deserve FBHOF status.

But, you had to know this could happen.

Kraft to me should be in, but it’s less objectively egregious that Bill not being in on merit .

What I have an issue with is Jerry MF Jones is in.

I don't like a lot of things Kraft has done, but Pat Bowlen making the HOF throws those arguments out the window.

The Patriots are tragically under represented in the HOF. How does a team win 6 super bowls and have one less HOF player than the Jets?.

The Jete have more members than the Pats?

When you openly admit BB's job was on the line in 2001 for starting Brady when Bob wanted Bledsoe, is something he should've edited out of the documentary. He put BB in a no win situation and was waiting for him to crash and burn so he could do his usual "It's not my fault". For him to double down and take credit after he was wrong was such a terrible look. I'm not sure how you can vote in an Owner who didn't believe in his HC.

Looking back, his poor behavior started with Parcells.

Then he plays the victim in 1998 when Pete Carroll warned Bob that Curtis Martin was going to find a way out if they didn't rethink their lowball offer. Bob didn't see the loophole Parcells/Tannenbaum had coming.

Then the Hartford nonsense. I never knew Kraft owned the land (fantastic business move) at the Pats stadium. He was never going to leave NE and wanted to scare the fans only to look like a hero in the end keeping the Pats in NE. Big scam.

Throws Pete Carroll under the bus for his bad decisions of running Parcells out of town, giving Bobby Grier control, rejecting BB wanting to be the HC, Martin leaving and horrible draft picks.

That late 90's team may have gone back to the Super Bowl had Parcells stayed. BB could've still transitioned after the 1999 season. Even with Carroll, they make make deep playoff runs with better management.

The gates and jealousy are joined at the hip.

You expect other teams to accept that they were just not good enough?

No, it clearly had to be cheating.

And you got Jerry jones who rode the coat tails of Jimmy Johnson and has done pretty much nothing for 30+ years

What really matters is that they are “America’s team”… lol.

Everybody whines, and people try to appease the squeaky wheel. If you just have a flat threshold with no one guaranteed to make it in, you can have situations like MLB did where no one made the cut for multiple years in a row, leading to uproars, and leading to Cooperstown getting a little peeved for not having an induction ceremony - and basically no extra money coming in.

Who here is surprised that the NFL chose an approach that guaranteed them the most money at the expense of personal integrity?
The dumb part is that if they wanted to, they could have voted Bill, Robert and the third person all in. Instead, they only got this third person in by themselves and kept Bill and Robert out for no reason.

The irony is whoever they let in won't be as deserving. Regardless of whether you believe owners should be in, they are, and Kraft is the best owner of at least the last half of the Super Bowl era. Bill is the greatest coach of the Super Bowl era at the least.

Nobody who gets in is even close. Greenwood is arguably not even a top 10 Steeler of that era, Roger Craig is deserving but he's a lot closer to being Julian Edelman with one or two high bar years, and Ken Anderson is basically just getting a bone throne his way if he makes the Hall. He's effectively Matt Ryan for the 80's.

None of them are close to the level Belichick and Kraft are in their respective roles.

A fascinating point was made on one of the SB interviews. Forgive me for not recalling WHO said it…I think either Boomer Esiason or Florio. But someone posited that the whole “Cheaters” narrative may have grown roots back when the Patriots were perennially beating people and at end of season interviews when owners asked staffs “why can’t we beat the Patriots” staffs found it easier to say “they are cheating” than “because they are doing a better job than we are”.

Obvious, but I hadn’t considered it because as an exec myself if a leader told me the reason a competitor was consistently outperforming us was “that other company cheats or has X unfair advantage ” I’d fire them on the spot.

Parcells could have won a SB here with the team he built but Kraft's ego got in the way.

Yeah it’s awful that Kraft prevented this team from having success

No dummy.

Kraft made a mistake with Parcells not giving him full personnel power and changed course giving Belichick personnel power when he hired him.

Everyone in NE knows this. You should too.

Okay let's do a thought experiment.

Parcells only won 2 rings with Lawrence Taylor. We also know Parcells wanted to keep coaching and if he couldn't still wanted to oversee football operations. We also know that Belichick ditched a team specifically because of that. We also know it is highly highly unlikely that anyone involved in drafting Brady is on the team in the 2000 draft and that we might not even have the same position.

So realistically we are trading 20 years for Parcells MAYBE winning one ring here but probably not

Jealousy doesn't explain the sportswriter's issues. They are not jealous of the Patriots' success.

They are just ignorant.
