This is still the worst type of internet sports doctoring. Chao's evidence is very weak. No way can or should he say Maye definitely has an injury. If he's been in the medical tent or on the injury report fair enough, but saying it like he's sure based on some videos is bullsh*t.
1) Basing a theory off Maye didn't throw much after that 3Q sack is wierd. Maye threw a 25 yard pass straight after (which was the longest from either QB in the second half) a throw away when Boutte was double covered, and one more incompletion, and was due to pass again on another play that was a nasty sack. I actually thought the Q4 sack was nastier on the shoulder as it was two players and he got spun on the shoulder. I mean the Pats were leading the game in a snowstorm. The D had the Broncos offense completely shut down. Multiple field goals were missed, punts were going everywhere. Stidham threw because they had to, but he was 4/10 for 10 yards and an interception in the second half. Stevenson was running the ball at 69y on 21 carries in the second half and they were burning clock. The game plan was run run run, the Pats didn't need a risk the pass.
2) Not sure I buy the rolling his shoulder around before the flea flicker either. It's just as the play call for the longest pass play of the half comes in, in a half where he has rarely passed the ball, in cold weather. More likely warming it up.
3) Running in to the tunnel. He uses the right arm several times giving stuff to the fans in the video.
4) Press conference. Meh, clutching at straws. He grasps the table, and uses his left hand exclusively to touch his face, but I've seen him do that in other post games. He also slaps the podium a few times with his right arm as he walks off. The shoulder lower thing Chao says is rubbish.
5) If Maye was injured on that play, he never went to the blue tent. There was never a sideline report the medical team had looked at him (and they were looking as they said this about Stidham in Q4 after a slide), and they sent him up to collect the trophy, and no reports of any xrays etc after the game. So that would mean Maye didnt tell any of the Pats staff during or immediately after the game, and called his own number on the vital play. In which he handed off a player.
The video of him wincing with his wife is slightly odd though.
I really don't like Chao's analysis. Bumps and bruises including the shoulder sure, maybe even a small injury showing up on the report. But speculating on more is sensationalist, he's said it like its 100% fact when in fsct he is guessing with minimal weak evidence, and it is done solely for notoriety and clicks in the news frenzy of the superbowl.
