The respect players have for Vrabel

He just exudes greatness and confidence. When he was hired, his press conference, I believe he said he wanted to win the Division and make the playoffs. It was nice to hear, but I’m sure nobody believed he could do it. It is something a lot of coaches say, but he willed it into reality with his great coaching, and his great personal skills he has with his players.

When you have a coach you will run through a wall for, that coach is usually a great coach.

Maybe the players were too young to appreciate Vrabel in real time while he was playing, but they have to respect a 6'4", ~250 lb former player more than some 150 lb, pencil-necked analytics geek coach no matter how smart he is...

Even then I’m sure some 6’4” ~250 lb former linebackers get more respect than others. One that has multiple Super Bowl rings with both sacks and TD catches in the games that won those rings is going to get a lot of respect as the default starting point. It will be adjusted slightly up or down by how he brings it every day. I don’t think there’s any question how Vrabel will move that needle every day.

It seems pretty clear he’s the real deal.

Along with all his other attributes, remember that Vrabel was the smartest player on a team filled with smart players. That's consensus among all his former teammates including Brady, Bruschi, McGinest,Seymour,Law etc
And he's one of the smartest HCs in the nfl.
We really lucked out.

I feel like BB not praising guys enough might be a bit overstated but it definitely feels like Vrabel looked at his experience and decided to handle things differently.. Quite honestly it seems as though BBs personality couldn't allow himself to get close to his players. Not in NE at least as the HC.

Vrabel knows how to straddle that fence and he has the respect of every player in there because he's been there and really knows what it takes. 50 was a true champ and a clutch mf who made countless plays for 3 Super Bowl teams.. But he also shows his appreciation and support on a consistent basis. I'm not surprised they all love him, what's not to love??

Collection of quotes from yesterday's pressers:

“I play hard for that man,’ Barmore said. “The things that man taught me, how he coaches me, I really respect the man with my life.”

“It’s the most fun I’ve had since high school,” Campbell said. “This is just everything I could’ve asked for coming into the league. I’m just super grateful for him.”

“He’s absolutely unbelievable,” Bradbury said. “This player-friendly term gets thrown around a lot, but it looks different. He’s hard on us when he needs to be. But he’s also a lot of fun at times. This whole locker room will ride with that guy."

“He’s a great coach. At the end of the day, he’s one of us,” receiver Kayshon Boutte said. “He played. He’s been through it. He experienced it. He played in the Super Bowl, too. He’s happy for us, but without him, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Boutte's assessment is a good summary. I remember accounts of Vrabel as a player telling BB how to handle certain players and situations.

Also ...

Vrabel was also a player's union rep, I believe. Maybe the 20-somethings don't have much appreciation for that, but I am sure the vets do. As time goes on, the senior players must think about life after football (particularly health) and likely appreciate someone advocating for them - unlike the greedy owners wanting to add games, etc...

A great leader credits the folks who enable him to ascend to that title, in Vrabel's case he always credits the players first. He also has standards that apply to every player, no one player is allowed to be a diva.. he has never denigrated any player this season in public.
He has many leadership attributes and does many small things that allow these players to believe in him and then translate it into how they play on the field.
Fortunate that he is now the HC of the New England Patriots..

I feel like Vrabel took the best of what BB did/had to offer while dispensing with BB's most toxic traits, namely his heavy-handed, autocratic approach to coaching.

The biggest accomplishment that Vrabel pulled off was completely rebuilding the culture there and that's the most important thing- that's what stays, year after year. We have a lot to look forward to.

Lol at the Titans organization.

When Mike Vrabel was hired someone interviewed BB and he said in so many words... MV is a microcosm of him the GOAT HC *before he lost his fastball*. Attention to detail - Situational football - Players HC - and so on and so forth. We can see it from his Coaching: MV is getting the best out of his players. Most of these guys haven't played like this for their previous Teams ie... Chaisson - Tonga - Durden just to name a few: there's something in the Mike Vrabel's Kool aid.

It was Vrabel's commitment to his players that won them. Standing by Stevenson and other players through adversity demonstrated fully that he wasn't just talk, but that he had their backs and would do everything he could to help them succeed. This season was the best coaching job I have ever seen. He took the worst team in football and turned them into the team competing for the Championship. Incredible job.
Good point and Rham is a Testament: I know I wanted him shipped out after that Steeler game. But I remember Vrabel saying we Need Rham: boy was he correct we wouldn't be here without him: a key cog in the machine. Mike gets' his players to buy in: He's literally Out Coaching his Coaching peers: that's an advantage we had with the Early Dynasty BB.

Biggest factor in Pats "aura" from the old dynasty teams is Vrabel. The guy checks off so many boxes in terms of leadership and likeability, and authenticity. Not sure how you can even dislike this team as an outsider between him and Maye. Far cry from the Beli/Brady days, which were full of ego & "gates".
Devil’s advocate : you forgot SB trophies when it comes to ‘full of’ …. Ego is fine w me if it comes w trophies.

Vrabel becoming the HC means the "Patriot Way" is actually real now. The Patriot Way was never a creation of the old coaching staff it was created by the old players in the locker room.
