Just think, a little over a year ago Sean McDermott and the Bills were on the sidelines laughing as the Joe Milton led Patriots beat them and lost the 1st overall pick in the NFL draft.

What a difference a year makes. They aren't laughing anymore.

Your window just closed.
Did the Notre Dame Coach this year leave??

If anyone can make the jump from HC in HS to HC in the NFL it's probably Phil Rivers - he's got the respect of the players and everyone else, which is more than you could say for some of the other HC candidates out there

Seems like the fans want McDermott back

Their best bet to find someone with proven playoff and SB experience looks like they're signing with Pittsburgh so McDermott may indeed be the best move, though we know that won't happen

Heck - Vrabel should reach out to McDermott and offer him a consulting gig next season!

Rivers will have the same problem Mayo had
No NFL coaching experience and a very limited coaching tree

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but apparently Josh Allen is sitting in every head coaching interview. That is ridiculous, when players get so much power it blurs the line. Josh seems like a good guy, but I can't help and feel that whoever gets the job will have to make sure Josh is happy with everything. Seems like Josh has veto power !!!!
So how does a player respect the coach when this is the situation. It's a big mistake that could implode. How will these prospects feel about having the QB in the room interviewing them ?????
But hey, that could work to the advantage of the Pats !!!

It has been mentioned numerous times and yes, it is ridiculous in the extreme.

Not *could*. It *will* implode.

I have a feeling Josh Allen will have a say in the HC search. What if he asks for BB?

I called this and it was too easy. I also don't have a problem with it. In fact, the NFL destroyed the power dynamic when QB's are making FU money at $40M-$50M+ per year. They are calling the shots now. The reason why Allen is getting involved is because the Bills have not been relevant since the late 90's, so the last thing they want to do is piss off Josh Allen. That's the smart move as it would be dark days ahead without him. However, Allen should also be having a private meeting with Ownership and/or Beane to let them know what they've done the last 5 years is completely unacceptable.

In the end, I still think Joe Brady is going to be the guy because an outside coach won't want to deal with the dysfunction. The only other option is that they look for a "yes man" or someone desperate to be a HC like Brian Schottenheimer who has been known as a D-list OC for his career.

And if it's Davis Webb, we'll know it's more than Josh Allen just sitting in on the meetings.

Josh should stay in his lane and have an input on coaches or players.

If he doesn't like what he sees, he can demand a trade or sit out until Game One.

Is that what you guys suggest?

Right or wrong, Josh feels that the coach and management haven't done all they should do to improve the team. Perhaps, he should simply keep his ideas to himself.

Many fans wanted McDermott gone.

All fans want Joe Brady gone.

This would be the equivalent of hiring Ron Erhardt. Brady got more of the blame for the Bills this year than McDermott did.

Pegula would be insane to hire Brady.

Strongly disagree, that idea has fatal dysfunction written all over it. Quarterbacks need coaching regardless of ability/contract and the rest of the team needs to see the QB defer it. Otherwise you have inmates running the asylum and discipline goes AWOL. Giving any "star player" a say in who coaches the team is a recipe for disaster.

Many media and fans wanted Jerod Mayo gone before he was hired out of nowhere. Maybe things have changed since then, but I seem to see praise of Brady by the broadcasts whenever the Bills games are on. I was also under the impression he had a good relationship with Allen. You live in Buffalo, so you know the temperature of the situation better than I.

I can agree that sitting in on the meetings is taking it to far, but Buffalo is caving because they need to put this fire out very quickly and can't risk going into their new stadium without Allen. I do think Allen is contemplating about an exit from Buffalo as he knows what they've been doing hasn't worked. He's unfairly been getting the blame for the playoff failures as his supporting cast on offense had flaws with Diggs and now pretty much garbage without him. Defense has been a liability since Allen has been with the Bills.

The only way I see the Bills bounce back is if a guy like Tony Dungy comes in and fixes them like he did with the Colts who where at a similar crossroads situation in 2002. There's nobody out there like that for the Bills, so I expect this to be the end of the Bills dominance of the AFCE.

Buffalo is "caving" because Terry Pagula has absolutely no clue WTF he's doing. And I've heard/seen no evidence of Allen wanting to bail on a $330 million contract for any reason.

This sad, bizarre situation should serve as a cautionary tale to other teams.

To me it’s not just including a player in the process, it’s including exactly ONE player. Yes, we all know that a star QB is a precious commodity. But it’s still a team game, and a public pronouncement like this that Allen is separate from the rest of the rabble on the roster seems like a bad locker room move.

I’m curious, if a team asked serious HC candidates to sit down with the team captains as a group to get a players’ perspective on their leadership and vision, what would you all think?

Once a player is allowed to make hiring decisions about coaches what’s next. That means he will be allowed to fire them ??? Allowed to sit out of practice or refuse to run a play because he doesn’t agree with the coach ??? Where does it end ???
