Stiddy discussion

As I stated earlier, Stidham ain’t playing with a HOF WR (Adams), prime Waller & All-Pro RB (Jacobs), but he’s solid & shouldn’t be taken lightly; especially with Payton. We need to mix up coverage, give him complex looks & get pressure on him if we aspire to get to Santa Clara.

The is the ultimate curse of the former back up game. Stidham will absolutely want to spoil the Pats season while taking his team to the Super Bowl.

I expect Vrabel to attack the same way he did with Stroud making Stidham think quickly.

I'm not taking him lightly. Nobody thought AJ Feely was going to lead a game winning drive in 2004.

Pats were also a heavy favorite going into Denver in 2015 because Peyton couldn't throw a football.
Feely had that random ass game against the Pats in 2007 too. the 31-28 scare against PHI. picked him off 3 times but he threw for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns

One thing I recall about Stidham from his brief playing time here was a tendency to back WAY out of the pocket to avoid the rush vs. stepping up. He'd be throwing the ball from 10-plus yards behind the LOS.

that works great in Madden. maybe he thinks he's playing that

I really just don't care about Stidham. Like @NovaScotiaPatsFan said, the matchup vs the Broncos offense was never about the QB in the first place, it was about their OL and Sean Payton's playcalling. QB was not a strength for Denver and it still is not.

Going from Nix to Stidham is probably not much of a downgrade, but it's certainly not an UPGRADE, as many are trying to convince themselves of.
Yeah, I mean just from the rust factor I think it certainly hurts Denver, but not to the degree that we should all be already booking tickets to Santa Clara.

Josh McDaniels knows Stiddy's weaknesses intimately. So I agree from a talent perspective Nic to Stiddy is not a big drop, but we have detailed intel on how defend Stiddy which makes it a greater drop off from Nix.

All it takes is for Stidham to have the game of his life Sunday to ruin our season. Dont take him lightly
Plus if all the Offensive playcallers we have faced, payton is one of the best. He isnt greg roman or nick caley

Without in any way dismissing Stidham, I’m not convinced preseason is a really accurate gage of anything. Chism looked like prime Wes Welker in preseason.

Bigger worry will be Denver’s defense, which has been good and Mile High, which has been a formidable factor

Stidham is a serviceable backup who offers predictably mediocre play: nothing more, nothing less. His upside is as limited as his downside. If the Pats just sort of mind their P's and Q's, they should win, and I think they will.

This whole thing is pretty amazing, ain't it? We're kinda blase about getting into the Super Bowl. Who would have predicted that?

Our run defense with everyone healthy is a force. Houston couldn’t run the ball to save their life, and really no team has all season when everyone healthy. Stidham will have to carry them.

If you watch Stid in the preseason, he can operate the offense and make the plays.
He's obviously not a game changer, but he can manage the game... and likely better than either Stroud or Herbert did, because he won't have a ton of baggage or pressure for playoff failure. He'll be loose and loving the opportunity.
We just have to stay disciplined and not let their very good WR's beat us.
Just stop. I love how people are blabbing about a ****ing preseason game. FFS everyone. He hasn't started an NFL game in 2 years, and is being put into a game against a battle tested Patriots team in the AFCCG.

Yeah, preseason where vanilla D and next to zero game plans are put in. Thats what I hear all the time, "So and So had a great pre season game". Wonderful. It's better than sucking but hardly an indicator that they would do the same in an AFCCG with one week of prep. Game speed is a real thing and he hasn't seen it in 2 years.

It would be highly disappointing to see him even have remote success against the Patriot.

How many GMs have drafted 3+ QBs who have played in conference championships?

How many GM's have driven the GOAT out of town because he thought he could win with anyone?

Over/under on stidham passes tipped at the line?

Houston's run game is better than Denver's. Houston also has a better QB than Denver. Denver has a better WR1 if you take Nico Collins out since he was hurt, but the rest of Denver's WR corps is very pedestrian; their second WR and below are probably worse than Houston's second WR and below. Denver also has worse TEs. The only thing to worry about is that Denver holds up very well in pass protection and Payton is a solid playcaller. But asking Stidham to carry the team on his arm with a bunch of JAG receivers is a tall order. Lock down Sutton with Gonzo and he is going to have a hard day.

We should all be prepared for Stidham to make those assholes throws on 3rd and long where you'd think he'll tuck it away and take the sack or throw it away only to launch it up for a WR to make a circus catch. Pats will have to fight through those plays.

These "I've got nothing to lose" players like Stidham are dangerous.

Excellent question.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think the original plan was to bottom-out with Stidham (and Hoyer in case of injury), and draft a QB with a top-ten pick the following spring. But then Bill either got cold feet, or the competitive juices got flowing, and he signed Cam. Prior to that Newton was not a consideration by any of the 32 teams because of his injuries (arm wasn't the same after right shoulder surgery, then a Lisfanc fracture). It was assumed he was either done, or at best wouldn't be able to play 2021. Nobody even talked to him early in free agency, IIRC. It was rather odd because it happened so late - it's one thing to sign a FA in July; another to sign your starting QB that late.

Honestly I think it was an "oh ****" moment for BB. Screwed himself by having no succession plan in place for when TB left, which he had to know was coming. Then the only thing available was the corpse of scam newton... probably wrong though....
