I happened to stumble on this and thought it was an interesting peek behind the scenes, into just one aspect of team operations and logistics. It may be all players don’t eat all the meals, although I saw some discussion saying they need to eat enough to provide the 5,000 to 6,000 calories they burn each day.

The team post (link below) specified this would be an 8:00 pm game start, and I assume it may be describing a flight to the west coast, or at least far enough to allow full in flight meal service.

Comments on Twitter included a link to another video posted by team nutritionist Ted Harper a few years ago. It’s also very interesting, even just for they quantities the go through in a week. They also emphasize good clean food, organic, antibiotic free, high quality stuff.

It is interesting. I stumbled across @18:30 after @Uptown posted it here:

They’ve come a long way from serving bologna sandwiches.

In Undaunted Courage (nonfiction), Clark noted that the men on the Lewis and Clark expedition were eating 9 lbs. of deer and bison a day while manually pulling their boats up the Missouri River from St Louis to Three Forks. Over 10,000 calories a day. Amazing what humans can do.

Sorry, but I find that hard to believe -- individually eating 9 pounds of meat in one day?! That seems physically impossible.

BTW, in case anyone else was wondering what "action station" means, it's where the chef is there preparing stuff to order (omelets, pasta, etc.).

Also: if you didn't watch the original "Do Your Job" video, Harper used to work for U.S. special forces, helping them obtain optimal nutrition. [I wonder how much of his "cheat food" job has been taken over by Mrs. Maye. ]

There is an older video on what it takes to feed the players on the Patriots daily.. complete with custom smoothies readily available after practice and before meetings.. 145 Lbs of Broccoli, 475 Lbs of poultry and 172 lbs of beef weekly...

Thanks, I didn’t know what the “action station” term meant. So thanks to you I now know a bit of hospitality trade or food industry jargon.

That seems to be over the course of two days. Seems very reasonable.

I'm curious what kind of supplements most players take. I would assume they all take creatine.

with a meal plan like this, who needs a private chef

Clark could have lied but had no incentive. The 11 volumes of Lewis and Clark's journals, about 5000 pages, are online. L&C took pride in accurately documenting their trip as required by the US Congress. Undaunted Courage is a must read for nonfiction fans. Also read Iron Coffins.

The discrepancy might lie in the accuracy of early 1800s-era weights and measures.

Or the discrepancy might lie in the definition of hard work in the 2000s.

The expedition pulled ropes while walking on land along the Missouri river to haul their boats and supplies 2500 miles upstream. I don't think you could find a crew of men to do that these days.

Maybe they were eating 1 x 9 lb deer daily, not 9 lbs of deer. In other words, a baby deer everyday.
