Pursuit of the Bye (1st Seed)

Not even the biggest this season, Panthers won at Green Bay as a 13.5 point underdog in week 9.
But... that's a road team. I wasn't really referring to the spread. But the fact they are going into KC and giving that much? No one expects KC to win.

I'm not sure where to ask this, but is there any reason why we should be hoping the Colts win tonight? Other then Rivers feeding more children?

If the chargers lose and broncos win this week, the chargers would have nothing to play for week 18 at denver if the colts lose another game before then. Then they have no shot at the division/1seed and they have no threat of missing the playoffs, theyll surely rest people. If the colts win the next couple and the chargers lose to Houston , that would put some pressure on the chargers to try in denver because theyd be in danger of missing the playoffs . The colts own the head to head on the chargers and would get in over them

Thanks. Woulda felt dirty pulling for the Colts anyways. Always liked the 9ers. Cool..

Colt's with black helmets? So unnatural. Whats next Packers with purple helmets?

Has anyone heard an explanation why the league moved from two to only one bye per conference? I don't like the single bye.
My guess is that the one bye was the price to get the 7th playoff team into the mix. That's the only way to wind up with 4 teams in the semi's.

Here's a total head in the clouds, 4D chess, blatant homer take:
I was shocked at how casual Vrabel was after the loss. I'd assume he'd be pissed and salty at all his pressers about "blown leads" and "taking foot off the pedal", and "lack of execution", etc... But he was the opposite. Is it possible that Vrabel could have instructed the Coord's to call "preseason football" in the 2nd half? Like, he knew it could be problematic for this young team to blow out a SB favorite and win the division so early, and wanted them to have a fighters edge down the stretch - to prove the 60min nature of playoff football, and teach how to have a killer instinct... etc. I know it sounds crazy. But Vrabel had a sly air in his countenance on Sun night & Mon morning. I'm not saying he wanted to lose - but almost like he knew they didn't overly try to win in the 2nd half - from a scheme/coaching perspective. Look at the first couple drives - JMD calling reverses and double passes and RPO's. But in the 2nd half when we really needed 1 extended drive, they did nothing - very vanilla. And I know Allen can adjust, but our D was completely bottling them up the first half, and then 5 straight TD drives?
It's odd to me. And I know that staff is not stupid.
I'm the provocateur today to stir up all the fomenters.

I don't think it's that. I think that Vrabel, like both Belichick and Parcells, knows that you don't get down on your team when they are down, you get down on them when they are riding high. You build them up when they're down, and knock them down when they're up.

Right, I needed my memory jogged. Thanks.

Must be a tv thing

I watched Curran and Perry last night and they said the Patriots get the #1 seed if they win out and Denver loses to the Chargers.

True?

That will be simple math and no need to go to tie breakers.
What is ****ty is that if we both win out, we lose #1 because of the Raiders!
Chargers can actually win the division and #2 seed.

I’m sure KC will lose, but…there’s something about going all the way down to their third string quarterback that actually makes me feel more hopeful they might win, it’s such a ridiculous scenario and sports are weird sometimes. Probably not that likely but you never know, it could be a Christmas miracle

You're right. Dumb assed question.

I cant see the Broncos losing another game.

@ KC and LAC at home.

NE would be 14 - 3
DEN would be 13 - 4

Best record in the AFC = # 1 Seed

If we win out and Denver wins out, we lock in 2 seed correct? Houston ain't a great reward. But I still want 1 or 2

You can't see the team that just got stomped at home, the team that beat the Mariota-led Commanders by one point, the team that beat the Jets 13-11, the Raiders 10-7, lose another game? The Chargers have won 7 out of their last 8 games, their only loss to the Jags, who did the same thing to Denver, and they're 1-0 against Denver this season.

Denver isn't even close to being as good as their record suggests. They fought tooth and nail against the worst teams in the league. A worse version than last years Chiefs team, that had miraculous luck throughout the season. I would have no quarrel if someone argues the same thing with our team, so this isn't a biased take that ignores that we barely beat a Flacco-led Bengals team, etc... Both of our teams have flaws, the only difference is that we play two bad teams, and they play one bad and one, that's at the very least as good as them.

If the defending champs, Pats, can lose to a 4-11 Fitzpatrick-led team at home in the last game of the year, and with that lose the bye, this Denver team isn't guaranteed anything.
