TreVeyon Henderson appreciation thread.

Next Gen stats for Maye on that run had him at 20.58 mph. We do have some speed at WR, RB and QB, I would like to see more use of it. I would also like to see some passes to Henderson...I think he would be a mismatch against most if not all LBs in the league.

Henderson has 34 receptions on 41 targets for 212 yards.

I didnt realize he had that many...just seems like its not an emphasis weekly. I think he had 2 catches against the bills, would have liked to have seen him catch a few more.

Sidenote...I'm not a fan of screens to him. I would like to see more of him coming across the middle or getting vertical, exploit his speed.

I think as his career progresses, he will become more dangerous as a pass catcher. He’s only averaging 6.2 yards a catch. They need to get him going on Kevin Faulk like screen passes with better blocking in front of him.

I didn’t realize it either. I had to look it up.

Good point on nonscreen passes to Henderson. My guess is that there’s a lot of the old playbook that they don’t run. I don’t see many shifty James White wheel routes in the flat or lining Henderson up as a slot or those short middle of the field digs out of the backfield.

They're all in the last few weeks when someone reminded Maye that it's ok to checkdown sometimes.

I'm not a fan of screens to ANYONE as the roster is currently constituted, and neither is Josh. No one except for Campbell seems to be able to get out on a screen to block.

It was interesting to hear Drakes response to going deep on 3rd and short as well as Vrabel was asked something similar. Personally I think when you gotta have it you take the high percentage stuff that keeps the chains moving. Not sure why the head scratching decisions on 3rd down are still coming up this late in the season.

Henderson is fine as a change-of-pace back. I expect his role in the passing game to evolve, and the flash plays are a welcome occasional boost.

What the team lacks is a reliable early-down back who can cut down on the second or third and longish situations, making the down-to-down running game credible enough to set up play action, avoiding must-pass situations on later downs, which only simplifies matters for the opposition's defense. We need a back who is consistent and reliable in short yardage situations both in and outside of the red zone. We do not have this back in Rhamondre Stevenson. His level of effort and ability to gain reliable yards on first and second downs are inconsistent, and it is reasonable to wonder whether his fumbling is genuinely a thing of the past. He's good on pass protection: fine. I have no idea why so many are so obsessed with this fact that they ignore his failings in every other aspect of a back's responsibilities. The sooner he is replaced, the better.

He's a feature back. He's the lead back. He'll be the starter next year and for the rest of his Patriots career.

Yes, you need a bruiser back, and you can do better than Rhamondre Stevenson, but don't relegate Henderson to James White status. James White wasn't NEARLY this good.

This is the Henderson pick.

It's why I don't complain about Nick Emmanwori anymore (even though he's been fantastic).

He was the guy i wanted in the 2nd round, and i can count the number of times that's happened on less than 1 hand. He's a home run threat every time he touches the ball. He must scare the **** out of opposing defensive coordinators.

He's tough as nails and runs like it. He dishes out hits instead of taking them.

As a runner, James White was better than he was perceived as being, but he was not, as you say, as explosive or quick as Henderson. That does not mean, however, that he is suited to the role of "lead back." He is simply not big enough for that role. Used in that way, he would wear down both within games and over the season, depriving him of the quickness which is his stock-in-trade. If he could become James White with some upside as a runner, that would make him a very valuable player. I would see nothing at all disappointing in that. But that does not give us a reliable, early-down, "lead" back. Rhamondre looks like such a back, but those appearances - all the actual facts indicate - are misleading. I am frankly baffled that fans are so reluctant to acknowledge this. He seems like a nice enough fella, but so what? I guess he's sort of the running back equivalent of Mayo as head coach.

He's the same size as virtually every other feature back in the league, except for Saquon and Derrick Henry.

Exactly James White was a Elite Pass Catcher above average runner.

Good thing RB's are a dime a dozen: we need RB like David Montgomery next Draft.

aka "A better Rhamondre Stevenson".

They'll need another one too to replace Gibson, I'm not sure they're going to re-sign him coming off the ACL.

Maybe he can fill the Gibson slot. Hopefully he's not another lead-footed Chism.
You heard they have him playing Zay Flowers in Practice. You would think KW would be more that guy.

KW is getting actual practice reps now, with the real team.

Would love KW to break one next game: I think he's Faster than T Henderson.
