I disagree, they were clearly the better team when they beat SF twice and Philly the first time.

It’s so weird, Mahomes is mimicking Brady in certain ways, he’s 3-2 in his first 5 SBs, went to the AFC Championship game I think 8 years in a row (Brady did 10 I believe), and has now blown out his knee.

Difference is, Pats didn’t get blown out in those 2 losses, and Brady put the Pats ahead in the 4th quarter. Pats defense choked away those 2 Giant’s losses.
(Edit: just saw someone started a thread basically on this angle. …) My favorite Pats Dynasty stat is that from the start of 2001 through Brady’s final game with the Patriots, they were in contention for a championship at the start of every game they played. Whatever the Chiefs version of the streak is will end next week, well short of 19 years.

Our offenses scored 14 and 17 points against the Giants. Our defense did not choke anything away.

The first Eagles-KC Super Bowl could have gone either way. I agree KC did completely own SF both times though.
Not the first time. I was travelling for work during that Super Bowl and got to watch it on the plane. When the plane landed in the 4th Q San Francisco was winning. When I got into the terminal KC was.

Tom Brady was in a literal walking boot the week prior to SB 42, had to play behind an offensive line that was doing their best impression of a subway turnstile, and STILL gave the team a 4 point lead with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Meanwhile Pat Mahomes loses two Super Bowls by three touchdowns but because his incomplete passes looked *so cool* he gets a break.

Yep. That includes Matt Cassel's year at the helm.

I’m not giving Mahomes a break. I’m correcting the false claims that our defenses cost us 2 super bowls

I don't think it affects his availability to start week 1 so much as really sets back when he'll be back to "100%"

Tom Brady, who obviously got hurt in the first week of September and not mid-December, was back in training camp with time to spare BUT wasn't his normal self until really the final month of the season. In fact prior to the infamous 59-0 Titans game in Week 6 the offense hadn't scored a single TD over 15 yards or something crazy like that.
The 2 TD in the comeback win against the Bills weren’t over 15 yds?

That confirmation by Rapsheet is the only details for now, obviously other stuff regrading MCL and PCL might come out later in an MRI.

But anyway, yeah pretty big league wide news even with the Chiefs already eliminated from the playoffs anyway.
It’s crazy to think that really the first big injury the Chiefs have since Mahomes started playing.

Since 2018 I feel their season never were derailed by injury. It feels like Kelce never miss a game.

While since 2010 we had multiple season destroyed by injury. Gronk basically missed 2 SB, Edelman missed one.

2011: Gronk
2012: Gronk
2013: Gronk
2015: over half the ****ing offense
2017: Edelman and Hightower. can throw in Jonathan Jones if you want

Yeah, I’m thinking Kelce finally calls it quits as well. Chris Jones is gonna be 32 at the start of training camp. Mahomes will be 31 when next season starts, and he probably won’t be on the field. I think Andy Reid will call it quits soon too. This iteration of the Chiefs Dynasty is over. Will they be able to have a part 2 like the Pats did with Brady/Belichick ? Highly unlikely. Can Mahomes come back and dominate for 10 more years ? Doubt it, probably retires before age 40.
A bigger problem may be cap space. Mahomes has a cap number of $78 million next year ( for a guy who may not be on the field) and per overthecap.com they are $43 million over the cap for 2026 with about $275 million tied up in top 11 players. They can get under the cap but who goes???

This is not how I wanted Mahomes to got out.

Interesting parallel to Brady, who also tore his ACL at 30 or 31 years old. At that time, Brady had been to 4 Super Bowls with a record of 3-1; Mahomes has been to 5 with a record of 3-2. However, Brady was coming off of a perfect regular season; Mahomes was finishing up a game in which his team was eliminated from playoff contention with 3 games left.

So, while these guys will have experienced this injury at almost the exact same point in their careers and have accomplished similar success to that point, their teams were/are heading in very different directions.

Also of note is that the injury will theoretically impact Mahomes significantly more than it did Brady. Brady as we know was a pure pocket passer. Mahomes is still very reliant on escaping the pocket and extending plays. He will struggle to do that on a reconstructed ACL for a while, and even when he’s fully recovered (2027?), his mobility will not be what it was. Plus, he will just be older by then - 32+ years old - would have been naturally slowing down anyway. So he will need to start transitioning to mainly being a pocket passer now, and I don’t think he will be nearly as successful at it. At least, he won’t be Brady-level “second dynasty in my late 30s” successful.

Their defense is aging, their OL still isn’t that good overall, Kelce is going to retire, they have one consistently good receiver in Rice who has off-field issues. Things not looking up in KC.

100%…and no Kelce..

I am not a fan of wishing ill-will on anyone. Freezing cold take. I hope Patrick is healthy and back on the field competing soon. He may sound like Kermit the Frog, but no one is laughing at that cat when he is driving his team down the field.

Brady looked off in 2009 despite his strong year statistically. He's an anomaly who changed his diet, training regimen and mechanics to extend his career. Mahomes is going to have think about that going forward as his style continues to get late 90's Bledsoe sloppy.

Chiefs had a good run and they had no business winning 3 Super Bowls. They had no business beating SF twice and Philly.
Brady looked "off" for more than just 2009 IMO. He was scared to get hit. He was tough as nails early in his career but after he came back he was very much one of the pretty boy QBs always whining for a flag and I don't think he had the same confidence standing in the pocket. Still awesome obviously, but I don't think it was until that 2014 wakeup call vs. KC before the "on to Cincinnati" game that he ever got all the way back. The combination of his performance being questioned and the whole Jimmy G thing really woke him up and made him fearless out there again.
